Unique Article And 2014 SEO Question

    Hi

I have always written unique articles and only ever submitted each article to one article site. Is this still okay for SEO, I mean is it just article spamming that can result in a penalty? Matt Cutts was talking about article submission but he was talking about article spamming being bad, as I say I have never done that, so am I still okay doing what I am doing?

Also what about directory submissions are these now seen as bad?

I do regular SEO for my clients with great results but need to know with all the latest updates what truly is exceptable in the way of building back links in 2014, there is so much conflicting information.

I know contents is king and social media is a must, but when it is not your own site, meaning you can't update the contents whenever you like, obviously you need to focus your effort offpage.

Also is it true that a mobile version of a site is no longer an option but a must?

Any other up to date SEO tips would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    D

    Are you in 2008?

Article distribution has been considered a bad tactic for a long time, actually most "article directories" have been penalized.

Directories, unless they are highly related to your industry/niche, stay AWAY, most of them also got penalized and now are making money charging to remove links.

You need to use google and search for "link building 2014" or at least try with 2013 strategies but stop what you are doing NOW or you'll get your customer websites banned...

I would suggest going with other platforms if you want content, its still viable to put out unique content but people are relying less on article directories for links to their money sites.

Web 2.0s are an alternative people have been using but who knows how long they will still be viable here are some options:
    Yola.com
    Weebly.com
    Tumblr.com
    Angelfire.com

These are just a few of them and weebly and tumblr you can interact with other members to promote your content.

Guest Blogging has been popular but also conflicting reports on that as well.

Personally there are a few article directories that are fine, the reason most people were so bent out of shape about article directories is because all of the directories they submitted the same article to. I never had an issue using 1 article on 1 directory but of course I did not expect that 1 article to effect my SEO in a good or bad way... I simply used it for getting referral traffic.

Article spamming is different than article marketing, and article marketing still works well.

If you post unique articles to other sites, even established directories, you'll benefit. Make the content quality, something you yourself would not mind reading, and it's ok.

    Hi

If they are unique articles why would I get banned?

To me Matt Cutts is referring to article spamming where you spin and post the same article to a tone of sites, don't you agree?

Each article I write is a one off and posted to one article directory only.

Well, if you go one off and posted to one article directory that's fine. But don't stretch your technique. Most of SEOs don't use it anymore unless it's a very good traffic source. Enzinearticles got heavy penalty in the past because of their policy. They were submitting around 4000 articles per day as I remember and one of the reason why Google came out with the algorithms is to stop this rank manipulation which many sites encouraged.
