Hi. I run a games news and review site. Daily content tends to revolve around copied press releases from companies, as such the same or very similar content will appear on many sites. We also have unique reviews and articles on a weekly ish basis. I have noticed since panda, my traffic has dropped. I was wondering, if this could in part be to do with the press releases. Should I consider adding noindex on all news pages more than a few days old? Site is 5 years old so has several thousand news items and a few hundred unique articles. Thanks in advance.
Truly it could be due to your copied content. Why not begin to try to rewrite your press releases uniquely? It will set a new standard for your site and could be rather good for your bounce rate. Additionally I would suggest you to begin a backlinking campaign with a wide link diversity.
Hi. Sadly there are two problems with that. The first is the actual time I have to do it, the second is the press releases go out to hundreds of sites, so one of the only ways to get people to your site to read then is to get them out in social media first! I post maybe 10 of these a day, sometimes up to 20 or 30 if my other editors are helping and a lot is happening. My thoughts are that we do have hundreds of unique articles, so maybe only give them and the most recent news items to google. May work lol. Such a pain as I used to rank on the first page of results for many of the unique articles! Since panda 2.5 I can barley find us!
Hi, I think duplicate content can be a big issue in your down ranking. try to maintain unique content and check before you post in your site.
Hi and thanks. As I say, I can't avoid the duplicate content. the nature of the industry dictates I have to publish the press releases as quick as possible! Interestingly, my pr has not dropped and has been steady 5 for several years. I have set the site to add noindex to any press release that is more than 5 days old and to remove it from the sitemap.xml. With luck that may improve things :-S Next - back link strategy!
Thanks, and I do have a lot of fresh content. My query is how to deal with the content I have to have that can't be unique
Of course. If your site don't have unique content then user can't have any interest to read the content of your site and they just go away by looking your first page and not interested to see other pages. so the bounce rate is increase for your site. So the pr for your site is decrease.
Thanks. Yes I know this. I have daily unique content as well. The question is how to manage the non unique content that I have to publish. The industry dictates that press releases from the various publishers need to be published on the site ASAP. My ability to generate fresh content often relys on these same publishers sending review or preview code. For the last 5 years this has not been an issue. Panda 2.5 update killed my traffic, so I am looking for advice on how best to manage the non unique content seo wise whilst continuing as usual with the fresh content.
Google not allowed copy and low quality content. if you copy content from other site. Google not give any high position to your website. Quality content play a vital role in best position.
Please please please read the question. I know I have to have unique content. My question is about how to manage seo for pages I HAVE TO HAVE that contain non unique content.
