It all depends on what you are searching for. My recent searches for "qgis tutorials" haven't come up with any big companies or hollywood crap. I guess stackexchange would be delighted to grab the "massive network" label though.
I think 4 year back search results are better then now days, these animals are increasing their revenue, they don't have time to care about anything else.
I think it's hard to blame them for what they do , they need money as much as we do ... so they have to make their profit by using those animal to let's people think about adwords more than SEO
