You really need to contact wp-engine support, it seems something there is really messed up.

it could be because only of your plugins crashed!

I've just stripped my blog right back - after upgrading to 3.8.1 I checked everything, all fine. A long while after I get an email from Google saying they can't crawl the site. WTF! had to drop all plugins and then reinstate those I really wanted. Went through a stack of pages and checked it was all ok. Then today I get an email from a friend: your site is down. Remove all the plugins and slowly reinstate the ones I really, really want and the site is back up. I haven't identified the problem plugin but it is weird that the errors don't show immediately.

Did you get hit by something like that?

It's usually one of the plugins. Remove them all and check that the site works. Then add the plugins back in one at a time until it breaks - then you've identified the problem. What you do is up to you. You can fix it, check the source for an upgrade, live without it, or replace it with a similar plugin.

I don't delete the plugins - it's faster just to create a folder in wp-content called something like "hold". I move all the plugins in there and test and then move back. You don't have to wait for the files to upload then.

Are you hosting it yourself, or using the WordPress hosting. I recommend hosting it your self it is the best for you if you want I can give you a good host for only 1 dollar a month. Also can you access your admins panel, if so remove the plugins or anything new you've done recently. See what fixes it.

This happened to one of the site I am working on and yes, it has something to do with a plug-in. As to what our devs said.
