For some reason my site, mygameforums.net has experienced an unusual spike of activity for the Google Images search engine without me optimizing for it. These are my questions: Can I tell what keywords people are searching for that are getting me such results? If so, is there anyway to convert that to the actual web results to get some traffic to my site? These are my search engine stats:

Google Image traffic is mostly useless, I would say only 15% of that traffic actually visit your site, most of those searchers are strictly looking for an image. It is a traffic source none the less, so if you use Google Analytics for your web statistics you can track which keywords are comming from Google Image Search.

Because your site doesn't really have anything to do with images, the traffic probably is useless.

I had the same thing happen to me last July on one of my niche sites, it's still going on, and I'm not going to turn away the traffic! ;)

Do use Google Analytics, though. Even so, the related keywords may be tough to come by. Analytics reports Google Image traffic as referrals, without giving you the related keywords. With analytics, you will be able to see how many actually view your page, because the javascript for it won't be run unless the page is viewed. Analytics will also give you the landing page from the google image search. Then you can check for potential keywords, by looking at potential keywords "close" to the images, image filenames, alt tags, etc. You may also be lucky enough to have a keyword where one of your images shows as one of the 3 image results Google shows on certain keywords when doing a text search. (I'm one of those lucky guys! :D )

Use Google Analytics AND Google Webmaster Tools to see which keywords people use to find your site. Personally, I prefer the latter. :)

I agree Google analytics will report the image traffic as referrals. Search for potential keywords in images.google.com
