Unemployment benefits and online revenue

    Hi guys,

I have started to make money online while collecting unemployment benefits for past 3 months. Our company was downsized.

Do I have to report these earnings, and can they find out if I dont report them?

Mostly from adbrite, around 400 to 500 a month.

    Thanks

Any money you made when calming unemployment benefits has to be reported, tho it's up to you to report it.

I believe that you can earn a certain amount ($2,200 per month?) and still be eligible for unemployment benefits. I am not sure if this policy varies by state, so check with your local unemplyment office about part-time work while on unemployment benefits.

In the US, yes, you should report all income earned, even cash/tips if you want to be honest about it. Most of the places you deal with via affiliate marketing, google, etc, are going to require a SS# or Tax ID, so that income WILL be reported.

Worse comes to worse, you get audited. Its up to you if you want to take the chance. Of course asking here will likely raise questions at audit time. :D;)

I believe all earnings in excess of $500/yr must be reported to the IRS by way of a 1099, be prepared to pay taxes on it.

Yes, you need to report it. Yes, they can find out as the affiliates will report payments to the IRS via a 1099 on yearly amounts over $600 (you still need to report all income, regardless of the amount).

Yes, you need to report it to the unemployment office as it may cause an adjustment in your unemloyment. But, the good thing is, they won't be as anal with you as you are at least trying to do something to provide for yourself.
