Undesirable Ads

Is there anyway at all to have certain ads banned from appearing on your site?

Yesterday I had lots of complaints on my sports site for a link appearing at the bottom titled "Nipple Jewelry".

Now I am not really an uptight person but stuff like that certainly doesn't belong on a site like mine and I am afraid if it continues to appear I will have to remove the network because I cannot deal with the complaints it will bring.

Can someone from coop please advise?

    Thanks,

    Dan

The only thing you can do is to flush the .txt cache. Empty it. With thousands of ads in the co-op chances are it won't be back soon.

Will that effect any of my weight or ad placement?

I really don't like the idea of it coming back at all.

no it won't effect your weight or ad placement.

links are not themed yet (will be a feature in the future), so for now you don't have a choice as to what ads will be displayed.

I manually edited the file and removed that specific advertisement.

Hopefully it won't come back or fill with something worse!

    Thanks for the help!

I didn't figure it would matter if I removed one or all of them.

    Who's shawn?

if everyone went in and removed only the ads they didn't want showing on their site, it defeats the purpose of the ad network.

shawn is the owner of this site and the creator of the co op

Wouldn't that be the same thing as the themed links you speak of in the future?

Honestly I never thought about that being a problem or certainly not defeating the purpose of the ad network. Specifically when I am running 5 ads on more than 5000 pages (indexed or not yet).

I would have deleted the entire thing, I just figured it would be easier just to remove the single link. I am still not sure I see any difference in deleting one add or all ads if there are in fact thousands of ads (and sites) running in coop. I certainly wouldn't mind if someone running coop deleted one of my links if their site was Oakland Raiders oriented or something like that.

You might also say that it affects the whole weight system. My weight makes controls how many sites fetch my link to their cache file, by altering the cached ads you offset that weight scheme.

On the other hand simply deleting the file does that too, and to a greater extent, so removing the one ad might be better. But if the rather strict guidelines for what ads are allowed isn't enough for a site, then that site probably shouldn't be in the coop.

But there currently aren't themed links - so that's a moot point. The point is that you are censoring what you are allowing on your site - which is what the problem would be. By deleting all the sites in the file at least it's giving a 'fresh start' to all the ads that can come in (determined by the weight system, etc.)

Well thats what I thought about remove one as apposed to all but on the part about what is in coop and what it not I am not sure I agree.

I am a kansas city chiefs football site having ads about nipples in the text is less than desirable but you are certainly correct, if it continues to be an issue I will be forced to pull out of Coop because my current userbase is more important to me than building more.
