Understanding traffic statisctics (AWStats)

    Hi,

I'm new webmaster with virtually no knowledge. Since a couple of days I have a blog hosted by an U.S. host. Of course, my new blog (which I do not promote very pro-actively since it is my live 'test-blog' mainly for learning) gets only a few visitors. I try to measure the traffic with AWstat.

And here comes my question. I do have a certain number of unique visitors. Obviously, most of them are me and myself :) (since I live in a tiny European country I am relatively sure that most of the visitors from this country are/is me ... also I checked the I.P. and I was successful in discovering my provider).

However, I get "tons" of unique visitors from the U.S. (where my blog is hosted). I am pretty sure that these are not 'real' visitors. How is this to be explained?

Also I got "tons" of visits (according to AWstats) from stumbleupon. Are this real visits? (can't believe it) or is this just some weird technical thing because my blog is stumbled upon (shameless self promotion via stumble)?

Next thing: I have troubles with relating the AWstat statistics with the statistics gathered by the Wordpress stat plugin at my blog (though it's too early to tell, I just installed this plug-in late Friday).

Ups, sry for my long post.
