Hi, I'm trying to get my head around the importance of directory PR. Some people have told me what matters is the PR of the directory page your directory link is on. Others have told me what matters is the PR of the homepage of the directory, not the deeper page where your directory link is. Guidance on this would be welcome.
If that page have good caching by the google where your link is... than i think directory PR no matter. Or its really good if your link is on PR page.
Those are the 2 main theories. From the article I read in Wiki and how Google describes PageRank, it seems it only matters if your page is on a page with PageRank instead of the PR of the homepage. Here's the link to Wiki regarding PageRank: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank And here's the quote from Google: "PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value." It mentioned "each page" that casts a vote instead of "each site". But i guess no one can say for sure if that's 100% true, since things would changed from time to time.
Google has not yet updated the PR for months, PR is not the most important factor when thinking a quality web directory, anyway people may willing to pay more for a high PR (i mean 3/4).
Web site index PR is ok and shows that the directory owner has made some efforts to promote their directory. PR on inner pages shows that the directory owner is actively promoting their site and in turn will have value for you in terms of the link juice passed on from his/her pages. The later is a good sign of a quality directory.
It matters very little if any at this point in the game. It used to when you could easily manipulate it and pass it onto links out of and into your site. The reality is there is little if any benefit to PR alone when it comes to directory listing. Directories offer a culmination of benefits, the least of which are PR. Things like traffic, better indexing, and SERP's. If you are looking solely for PR then you are better off to pay someone for a link from a high PR home page that's gonna count.
The PR of the page isn't as important as making sure the directory is related to your niche. You want links from sites that are similar to yours in topic to help your site rank in the SERPs. PR is simply a bonus.
If a directory has a good page rank then it means the pages of this directory are more cached by the search engine.
