I had this on V7N but someone said he didnt think they would know. Hopefully you guys can help. I am trying to get a fix on how many links I will need to get ahead of one specific company with my new site. finda.co.nz is owned by a company called APN data which also owns wises.co.nz nzherald.co.nz search4.co.nz Being that they are all owned by the same company they have sitewide links at the top of their page for each of the other companies. Between all their sites they have over 3,500,000 indexed pages and their main pages are each PR6-8 They use the following IP Addresses 203.89.186.129 203.89.186.129 203.89.186.130 203.89.186.131 except NZ herald which uses 203.99.65.135 (1,000,000 pages) Now my understanding that if there are 1,000,000 links to a webpage all hosted on the same IP address all using the same Anchor Text, that its not as good as 1,000,000 links hosted on 1,000,000 IP addresses using varying anchor text. Please dont respond with this is correct / incorrect. And dont tell me that it depends on the anchor text etc or anything about serp. My question is this. If 1 link on a PR1 page is worth 1 Point How many points is 1 link on a PR1 page worth if 1 link already exists I am looking for specifics please. eg if finda.co.nz has 3,000,000 links from 3 IPs, around how many unique links would I need to at least be near them. 100,000 200,000 300,000 1,000,000 3,000,000
I must say it depends on .... Yes it depends on the search engine. Experiment which I have conducted so far have shown that some search engines don'nt value links from the same domain. I think you better concentrate on building your website for human than Search Engine Robots. That will be a big task to accomplish. Or do you have an automated link generation strategy that will help you to generate such enormous amount of links. Any way I have to do the calculation but not now.
I dont have a plan at this stage because I cant make a plan without knowing what I have to accomplish.
Wow, you definitely have a hill to climb there. One thing that helps your competitor is that they have a mini-net thing going on. Have you ever heard of "Revenge of the Mininet"? It is a book written about the power of creating a niche network of sites and linking them in a certain way. You could pursue creating a mini-net of sorts to help propel your site forward. It is more of a complex strategy compared to things like article marketing, but it may be something that could help you in this situation. Just do a search for that book and you'll find it. It is a free download. Matt
they are a multip billion dollar company, they own 118 different newspapers & 30+ radio stations, the wises site is the mapping company for New Zealand, and they have those cars with cameras etc. Finda is bigger than our yellow pages. Making a mini network isnt really an option because it will never compare. The only thing that might be in my favour is they only have a few hundred links from external sites and there sites have SEO flaws in them, mainly, the keyword on those 3 mill + pages is just 'finda' which isnt exactally smart.
i agree that the keyword selection may not be the greatest but as already said the volume of this operation sounds pretty HUGE to me, i wish you the best of luck!
