i have heard and seen some websites that have more than 3 ad units on their pages. There is something called "elite publishers". (43things.com)...how does google allow this? What type of site can get approved? Is there any need to apply for it to google or google will automaticaly tell themselves? Maybe some elite publishers are in DP.

I think premium publishers get special deals. You need certain pageviews per month to be considered as a premium publisher. I've seen even 5 google ad units on engadget.com.

Yes exactly, and they are called Premium publishers and not elite publishers. :)

Buddy has 10million impressions + per month and got this response:

"As for your interest in AdSense Premium please note that at this time, we're unable to offer this service to publishers."
