Unacceptable Content - I think Adwords don't like me

Hi all - I'm new to this site, so excuse me for beginners' mistakes.

What is it with Adwords? I don't get it.
I try to post some ads and g00gle disables all my keywords saying that they are Unacceptable Content.
All the while my competitors run their ads (same content) just fine. How do you get through their rigid "filtering" system?

    I'm perplexed.

Are you in a market with particular rules? E.g. Gambling, adult, medicine.

The funny thing is that I see adult ads up sometimes...I imagine it's shortlived.

    Yes, I am.
I'm promoting a gambling related software. But that is not the question.
I wonder, how come google blocks my ads for any gambling related keywords, yet my competitors feature ads with the same words in them?

Is it that their ads have been there even before they changed the rules? I don't think so... how do they get past the screening?

    Well...
    Try Blackjack, Poker or Slots.
I try to submit ads with these keywords and I get a red tag saying it's unacceptable content. After that there is nothing I can do - Google won't allow me to run these adds and that is that.

If you search for the same exact words on a google search - you will see my competitors running ads using Blackjack, Poker or Slots.

How come my competitors don't get screened?
How can I pass Google and submit my ads?

I cant tell you what to do but what I would try is this: You can add the keyword blackjack to your adwords keyword group. I did this myself so that step is OK. I was stopped when I tried to create the actual text ad that had the negative keywords in it. What I would do is create an ad and not USE those keywords. Use this syntax instead:

    {Keyword:Alt text here}

This will display the searched term. Where it says Alt you have to place an alternate text ad there incase your keyphrase is too long. Try that and see if it works for you.

    I didn’t get it...

Can you please write down an example of an ad using the syntax you suggested? I don't really understand how to combine it into an ad I want to advertise.

Are you actually saying that by using this form of ad you were able to "pass" Google and show ads with "unacceptable content"?

If google is already telling you that you shouldn't be using those keywords, why insist on using them?

    Because my competitors use them...

You are not seriously offering me to leave the competition and go for the small, insignificant keywords no one’s looking for, are you?:D
Besides, if my competitors use the same keywords - then why am I not allowed to do so?

Well when I search for a word that you want to target I see ALL your competitors with ADS that have the taboo word. So they must be doing it somehow. THe only two things I can think of is that they are either grandfathered in or that are using some sort of work around. Here is a short explaination.

You can bid on the taboo word to have your ad disply we know that much.
You can not use the Taboo words in your ad when it is displayed.
Option One Do not use the taboo word in your ad. (Screw that everyone else is)
Find an acceptable way around things.

When you use a "wild-card" or dynamic headline in your ad it will look like this.

    {Keyword: Play For Free}

When the ad is displayd it will show like this

    Blackjack Play For Free
It will automaticly fill in the keyword you purchase and we know that you can purchase the keyword, you just cant make the ad.

So that is how I would try to work around the problem. I suggest you search dynamic adwords titles for more info.

Your idea sounds great but I have a question - does G00gle support the dynamic headline?
(If they do, it just might explain how my competitors show these ads... )

The other thing is that you can get approval from Google to use forbidden words.

For example, some of our adverts include "casino" and "poker" - why? Because we are not promoting "casino" or "poker", we are selling websites that happen to be about "casino" or "poker", if you're in a peripheral industry, you can get google to manually approve you to use forbidden words.

How do you do that? Do you email them and ask them to do it, or what?

    Pretty much, yeah.

We emailed support saying "our site isn't about poker but people looking for it will use poker as one of the keywords" Google checked up on us and said "you're right, off you go, you can bid on those forbidden keywords."

Interesting, I guess the people selling poker tables or clay poker chips do the same

I wonder if it makes a difference whether the words are in the title or the description? I have changed it around and sometimes this makes it acceptable.
