I am unable to verify my website in webmaster tools through html verification. Though i have uploaded the file (and can access it by clicking on the link), google has been unable to verify it, giving out the following error:

We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header.

What should i do? I use joomla and i dont think i can add additional meta tags:confused:..please help

For Ms Frontpage users, it easy to upload a html file to get the necessary verification.

    For Joomla:

    1. Log in (as Super Administrator/Administrator)
    2. Go to Site/Template Manager/Site Templates
    3. Select your template and click "Edit Html"
    4. Scroll all the way to the bottom. Paste your Analytics Code right before the tag </body>
    5. Click Save
    6. Log out

Try meta tag verification or waiting until you can verify html verification

I had the same problem with my subdomain. I've verified my domain, but with subdomain I still have a problem. I thought verification failed because my subdomain is still not indexed by google. Tried both, meta and html file. Doesn't work.

Sounds like a problem with .htaccess caused directly by Joomla -- you either need to try meta tag verification or find some way to modify the .htaccess file to make Google happy.
