So - I'll admit it up front. I have two Facebook accounts. I started them both many years ago before, as far as I know, it was considered a violation to do so. I'm a musician, so one is my stage name - which I use to post information about shows, recordings, links to other musicians I like, etc. - and the other is my personal account. On the stage name one I have almost 5,000 friends. I mindlessly accept any friend request I get with that account because I have the info for it on my cards, recordings, etc. I assume all requests are from people who are interested in the music. Also, a couple years ago I played some shows opening for bigger bands in small clubs in Europe and Asia (just to clarify, I'm not that "big" myself - it was a net loss and I had to pay a good amount myself to make it happen, but it was a cool opportunity!) So now with that account a ton of my friends are from Asia and Europe. I know there are special "band" pages on Facebook but I had no idea it was an issue to have two "personal" pages and honestly I prefer the setup with the personal one for what I'm trying to do. So suddenly a few days ago Facebook locks me out of my musician account and is asking me to solve a face/name recognition security check to get back into the account. With over 5,000 friends, the vast majority of whom I don't know or recognize, this is impossible for me to do. Just to clarify, I'm not trying to cheat the system. I didn't know what I was doing wasn't allowed. I basically just want to get in one last time to post a message saying the account will be discontinued and to provide them with an alternate way to stay informed (a new website or mailing list, potentially). I've worked my butt off to get these 5,000 friends over many years and it would really suck to lose all of that. Does anyone know how I can "beat" the security check so I can get into the account one last time? Facebook is not easy to contact and since I technically broke the rule they are not willing to help. Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated. Like I said, I've worked my ass of for this and don't feel it's fair to suddenly lose the ability to contact all of these people. Thanks in advance for your help! Gary
Is this the famous 'tagged friend' security check? Well, if you don't know who these people are then you will really not be able to recover your account. Unless you try to look for the names one-by-one, which I've actually tried before, with a bit of some luck I was able to recover my account. I think I just got lucky also. Try it.
