Hello, For the past half hour, I have been trying to make my first post regarding getting some help for Apache redirects in the httpd.conf file. However, your server keeps stopping me, because in my message, I include a snippet from my actual httpd.conf file which shows the current redirect directive I am using. Your server keeps saying: "__________ is a redirect to ___________ (use the destination URL instead)." The only way I could even post this current message was by using underscores, in place of the real URLs. Even if I add multiple spaces in the four lines which I include in the snippet, so that your server will hopefully not recognize the snippet as actual redirect code, it STILL keeps sending me the same error message. I even tried logging out, and logging back in again, and using the snippet with all of the spaces in it, but your server still keeps throwing me that same error message, I imagine because it still has my previous message in memory. So how do I overcome this? I tried adding ' before and after the snippet -- as works on other messageboards -- but that did not work. I then also tried enclosing the snippet in and Code (markup): , and that was not recognized either. So I am at a loss, and a bit frustrated regarding how to even post my first message here. Thank you kindly.
Oh gosh . . . so the bb code for code snippets did work in this message, probably because I did not include the actual URLs. So how to proceed?
Redirects are not allowed. Just don't use http:// or www. in front of a link and you should be able to post it (even a redirect). BUT... keep in mind, you can't promote affiliate links on DP except in your signature, but you need to be an established member (you need to have 3 likes from 3 different members) to have a signature.
Thank you for your response, qwikad. It has been very difficult for me to post here, with that same error message popping up, and preventing me from posting. However if you go over to my other thread where I actually posted my original message asking for help, you will see that someone there read the text file that I uploaded and has helped me with three redirects. I am just waiting for answer to a final question . . . in case you know the answer to it. The URL is: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/how-to-add-multiple-redirects-to-httpd-conf-in-mamp-pro-4-1-1.2797076/#post-19435691 Regarding affliates and such, don't worry. I do not run any commercial websites, and I am not interested in using your forum as a promotional advertising base for my website. I am just trying to get some assistance, because I am indeed a greenhorn when it comes to configuring Apache httpd.conf files. I have learned to do a lot in recent weeks which has even amazed myself . . . and I am in my 60s, by the way.
If you are trying to post a URL that is within a post *about* a URL, you can wrap it in a CODE block.
As I have already stated several times now, enclosing the directive snippet from my httpd.conf file in [ code ] and [ /code ] is NOT working for me. Your forum software keeps throwing up the very same error message regarding using a redirect, each and every time. That is why I have resorted to uploading text files containing my information in the other thread. That is the only way I can get around the error message.
Yes, I am absolutely certain, and I tried multiple times, even putting in a lot of spaces in the URLs to try to trick your forum software into letting me post, but it was still a no-go. Regarding that footer in all of your messages, I don't know if that is directed to me personally or not, but I do believe that I am already posting in the proper support forum at Site & Server Administration/Apache. My thread is: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/how-to-add-multiple-redirects-to-httpd-conf-in-mamp-pro-4-1-1.2797076/ If you read the last text file that I uploaded, you will see exactly where I stand right now with this. There is just one remaining small problem which I have not been able to work out regarding the redirects. Thank you. PS: Okay, your forum software just REALLY does not like me. I noticed that after posting this message, the URL that I included to my actual thread was not converted into an actual link. I tried a few more times and got the same results. I use AdBlock Plus, so I thought that maybe that was the problem, so I disabled ABP for this page and tried again. This time, even with ABP disabled, your forum gave me the following error when I tried to use the link button to convert that thread URL into an actual clickable link: The following error occurred: Your content can not be submitted. This is likely because your content is spam-like or contains inappropriate elements. Please change your content or try again later. If you still have problems, please contact an administrator. So I don't know what is going on here. I am just finding it very difficult to post messages on your forum. I am using the latest version of Firefox -- 51.0.1 -- on an iMac running El Capitan 10.11.6. Can you please just look at my final uploaded text in the other thread, and see if you can help me figure out how to fix that one nagging problem? Thank you.
It's definitely just you the forum doesn't like. I'm using more or less the same setup (Firefox 51.0.1, OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 on an old Macbook Pro) and it works just fine (as I proved to you in the other thread - I could post the code just fine). I'm guessing it's either a plugin for Firefox, or something buggy with your setup. You could try visiting the forum in a clean version of Firefox: click the option-button (top right, below the tabs), click the question mark and chose "restart without addons" and see if that works?
There are certain forums certain members have harder times accessing and it often depends on addons, plugins, hacks incorporating spam alerts on members based on their IPs or emails. Have you had issues with other forums in the past?
