I can't seem to get this keyword higher than 75, each time it gets to that position, googlr crawls my site finds a few 404 errors on my blogs then knocks it down 10 places, then then starts to climb again for 7 days then the process is repeated. I am blogging via wordpress like crazy, adding a page to my site every day, forum posting, article posting, blog commenting, but can't seem to work out what is going wrong my site is: www.stubbsintmovers.com
what kind of backlinks are you getting in the form of comments and how many competitors does the keyword have. you will probably need to start building high page rank and .edu and .gov backlinks . .edu and .gov sites give you massive link juice but they are not easy to come by if you do not know how. if you still do not get anywhere then i suggest you definatly get someone in the know to look at the code of your site.
Why don't you use google webmaster tool? It helps a lot to get optimized result. Remember, backlinks won't count for you unless you use proper keywords in anchor texts. Try to get backlinks from same content websites.
You need to review the following things: 1. Review on page of your website ( site must be free of errors like perform xHTML validation, keyword density, review competitor on page changes who are already on top, keyword placement) 2. Quality Back Links from the relevant domain/niche (Link Authority) 3. Traffic from Relevant Niche 4. Unique IP Address( Not only need to focus a single domain like word press, focus other blogging domains ) 4rth step is the relevant with your problem, when keywords get stuck it means you are not feeding the search engines with unique IP addresses.
I did a w3.org html check which was fine. I constantly monitor my page results using google webmaster and have checked keyword density

How long have you been doing that? In my opinion, as long as you insist on quality content on your site and quality backlinks to your site, your ranking will be improved.
If you are targeting the keywords that are highly competitive than it might take some time to get the SE ranking but you should keep doing your SEO activity.
