Normally works right away using the network wizards. And then, of course, don't forget to actually right click those folders you want to share and then 'share' them. Forgot that myself once or twice

You don't have to set up a network place necessarily.

On both machines go My PC > right click -> properties -> Computer name and make sure both have the exact same Workgroup name (MSHOME it defaults to I believe).

If that's not OK, run the wizards again and look out for when they ask for that part.

If it's OK go to Explorer, not IE and not the 'Browse' one, but the one where the folders are in the left column in a tree. There you;ll see Network. Expand it. Then expand Entire Network. Then expand Microsoft Windows Network. Then expand whatever you called your Workgroup. That when you should see all PCs that are connected. Click on any of them and you'd normally see their shared folder, printers etc.

Next time, go Mac or Linux for some command line fun (actually it all works like Win on *nix too nowadays - I can highly recommend Ubuntu if you ever get bored of Bill's shit) :)
