There's been riots in London and reportedly in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and no doubt many more in the next few hours. Â Â Â Any attempt of justification by the rioters is frankly insane. Â They are out for what they can get. Â I can't understand why these crowds haven't been dispersed. Â Call the army, use live ammo if you must.
Yep, any dp'ers in the UK, stay inside and stay safe. Looks crazy out there. I've got tweetdeck showing #londonriots and I can't even read a tweet they're scrolling so fast. this guy seems good to follow: http://twitter.com/#!/muskhalili
To me this whole riot is difficult to understand. Â That this is all going on. Â In London. Â On the other hand, I guess it isn't really that mysterious. Â Too many opinions, too many differences, too much problems, located at the same place. Â What is mysterious is what is already said mentioned here, why there isn't more done about it? Â I mean UK dealt with IRA for decades, they should have more experience than any other. Â
The police are bogged down with poor / weak management, political correctness, liberal views and the Human Rights Act. The Met (London Police) is currently leaderless, the PM is just back from holiday, and most of the army is away in Afghanistan. There simply aren't enough officers to combat it all. The rioters are scum.
On the button there Peter. The time for passive policing is over. If the police publicly battered a few of the worst offenders their pathetic entourage would skulk back under their rocks.
Yeah Mark Duggan knows all about passive policing....Just saying birch them isn't going to prevent this happening again. The fact that this violends and lawlessness spread so quickly proves that there are massive underlying problems in these communities. We can either prepare to come down hard on them next time or try to address the causes in the mean-time. Closing Surestart centres and scrapping the EMA is always going to deepen the divide.
http://twitter.com/#!/search/enfield Apparently people are taking the law in to their own hands.  Only managed to read snippets off twitter, but people are saying up to 300 people have turned up to defend their area.
They are definitely brave souls to get out there to help put the city back together. I'd be too nervous to set foot outside until things slow down.Where is Superman when you need him?
its calming down a bit now, nothing new for me as I'm from n.ireland it makes a change to see riots in the mainland though
Good on 'em. Too many people expect their government/police/someone else to look after them. Or are too scared of breaking the law to defend themselves. Sad thing is, the police will probably find the time and resources to charge the people DEFENDING their property.
Because their hands are tied by the Politically correct rules we have all, collectively, demanded. However when the shit hits the fan the nice way to deal with problems is no longer appropriate. Every person they arrest has to have their rights read to them, be processed, mountains of paperwork, court within a certain period of time... and if they need to be remanded (which they should) where on earth do you put them all. Don't get the softies started on overcrowding in prisons etc. A "state of emergency" needs to be declared and all that nice stuff thrown out. If people want to behave like animals they should be treated as such. Well, no freezing works but herded up, kept together, basic needs met but nothing more until the situation is under control. England (and the west) will find that their softly softly approach needs urgent revision.
It's a shame that London's image is being tarnished by a few hundred antisocial misfits.I've been to London a few times, always felt safe there. The Olympic Games are to be held in London in 11 months time.London did not need this bad PR to be broadcast all over the world at this time.
it was started by a black person getting shot by police.. he was innocent and had no gun.. thats what has sparked it all and the trend has just gone through city to city.. its stupid only in england would people smash upn there OWN homes and shops..
The courts have worked through the night to process some of the arrestees. I hope this is a wake up call for the gov't to quit its softly softly approach to policing & Law and order. He had a gun on him. Despite the usual "he woz a good guy, so he woz. Da feds done him wrong", he was also a drug dealer. One less scumbag.
