National Petition to Stop the Closure of Post Office in the UK There are a number of local petitions running in the UK to trying to stop the proposed closure of local branches. These petitions individual petitions attract a few hundred signatures at best, a few small voices in a big world where no-one takes much noticed Together if we all add our support to one Petition the Government and Post Office Ltd may just listen to our views. The local Post Office performs a greater service than just being a Post Office. For many people who live in small and rural communities the local Post Office / shop is the place of interaction and communication for the old, the disabled and the unemployed, where political and social issues can be debated and acted upon. Apart from the local pub (if there is one in the small villages) it is more likely to be the only point of meeting and development of community spirit, where those new the community can meet and interact. Closing Post Offices will mean for many having to use poor public transport or their cars, in a time where we are trying to encourage people to be greener and protect the environment, this will have a negative effect by forcing people to travel further.
