    Hello,
A friend is going to register a .com address for a new business he is starting in the UK, then he will register the business name at company house which matches the hostname.

Unfortunatly someone has purchased an identical hostname but for .co.uk but has not registed the business or setup a website.

What are the legal issues here? Can they make my friend change his .com name, or can my friend make them surrender the .co.uk hostname?

    Any help?

    Thanks

I don't think your friend will face problem unless that company has registered a name that is trademark.

Your friend should be fine, don't worry about it if they ahven't even set the website up doubt it they'll have trademarked anything.

    hi

read on another site than registering with companies house will only give me right to company name-

but does not offer any benefits with protecting business name, website etc

I just started small business, .co.uk taken already- i have . com ( sole trader), have found out the other person is in similiar line of business, although not set up business or website yet so worried they could take my .com of me ?

is the only way to protect myself my getting trademark, is this a lengthy / difficult website?

    thanks
