    Hello,
I suggest that we go back to normal looking smileys, you know the yellow happy faces?
Because those green smileys with antennas, I don't know where they come from but they are ugly and don't convey any emotion, they just look weird and ugly, like boogers from a very ill person.
Please help them to go away:
    :);):(:mad::confused::cool::p:D:eek::oops::rolleyes:

Hehe... the biggest thing with those particular smilies is they are vector based (not raster). This means they are infinitely scalable and look good on retina displays and such. For example, zooming way in on your browser:

While I don't absolutely love them, I do love how good they look on high resolution screens. Hopefully someday someone comes out with something better that is also vestor based, rather than raster based.

Hey there, believe it or not I just joined to comment in here lol. I am Kim on the Xenforo site.

I have to agree with the comments about teh green smilies, they do not add to the experience of reading the site at all. In fact even zoomed I have no idea what emotion each one is supposed to portray.

They also look totally craptacular when zoomed in on my Firefox browser, not sure if you are using a special reader or something Shawn.

We once had a bunch of good members leave a site after we converted from vB to IPB - over the smilies! lol I couldn't believe it, but people are very passionate about these little guys!

Yeah, Firefox doesn't re-render stuff on zoom all the time. Firefox seriously has become the new IE for me. I gave up trying to support retina graphics with Firefox on this site (it's the only browser that doesn't get the retina quality icons and stuff) simply because it doesn't support some CSS tags that other browsers do for it. Obviously that's a whole other topic though...

As I mentioned, I'm not in love with the current smilies... In fact, I would have preferred to use these ones: http://www.icons-land.com/vector-emoticons.php

Unfortunately they were using some alpha transparencies on some layers that wouldn't convert to SVG without me more or less going in and redoing each layer in the Illustrator images by hand... The image on the right was what they looked like after converting them to SVG:

I *am* in love with the SVG format for images... I just hope some artist comes up with some great vector-based smilies... I'll be the first to switch to them. :)

Interesting, I wonder if Shelley would be interested in looking at doing some.

Hard(er) to do gradient highlights without transparency.

Yeah I know FF has become the new IE, but it has all my stored passwords, and I am lazy and forgetful :p

You can use transparencies... there was just something about alpha transparencies (which you can use also) in certain situations that the SVG spec didn't support... I don't recall exactly now, but I think it might have been a global alpha transparency applied to a group of objects or something...

And yeah... Shelley mentioned she's toyed with it... hopefully something comes of that. :)

Well that would be good if she does. I know she is busy though so it might not be anytime soon.

Interesting idea though, to use SVG images, hopefully you can find some that are more universally appealling that the green, drooling, vampire, aliens :p
