I am a dope...opened a file over IM from a friend i was talking to...now my regular 'puter has quite a cold... how do you delete files from DOS? i can see a bunch of things that should not be there when I show hidden files....jennifer lopez, british national party, an annoying frog if anybody has any other information ---it would be appreciated...I am dumb...
Careful, there's no undelete (unless you use some third-party tools). Deleting a single file > del c:\dir1\dir2\file.ext Deleting multiple files in the same directory: > del c:\dir1\dir2\file1.ext c:\dir1\dir2\file2.ext Deleting multiple files matching a pattern: > del c:\dir1\dir2\part*.ext > del c:\dir1\dir2\part?part.ext Deleting multiple files matching a pattern including subdirectories: > del /S c:\dir1\dir2\part*.ext Read-only files can be deleted if you add the /F switch. If you just go crazy deleting files you will screw up your computer. Better do a virus and adware check.
ok, minor hijacking going on. what do you do if you have a virus, not sure what the name of it is, but it is not being caught by the virus and adware check software. Think that maybe the virus is disabiling the virus software from catching it.....
the spyware/ adware prevents me from looking at any/ all sites that could be remotely related to computer security...or run certain programs ie cant run norton, mcaffee, go to windows update, even DIGITALPOINT... on a different 'puter now, so I forget what i think the name of it is... i managed to figure that out...but when I googled the name --the window closed. major pain in the ass...total day wasted. almost threw 'puter into the dumpster moral of the story : pay attention to what you are doing on messenger Thank you for the help JD---much appreciated
These things are bad - once you get one, it usually opens doors for many others. Try minimizing the number of them running (you won't get rid of them this way) by starting your machine in safe mode. Once in safe mode, download and install an alternative browser (i.e. if you are using IE, download FF; if you are using FF, download Opera). Use the browser to download some antispyware tools. I would begin Microsoft antispyware tool and www.adaware.com. Try to steer clear of unknown stuff - some of it will actually install more malware. Always run any of these tools in the safe mode. Chances are that once you start running the tool, one or two viruses will try to disable it and some may even succeed. Once you removed a few viruses, but your current tool keeps finding one again and again, you can try another tool. Depending on the virus, manual removal may be helpful or ineffectual. In one case manual removal combined with using a tool helped me (in a few others, I wasted a couple of hours trying to remove an unknown virus manually). J.D.
EPA!... another 2.5 hours of my life down the drain...but I saved a couple dollars by not tossing the PC. JD ---good work!
