UFC 139: Henderson vs. Rua was the fight of the year for 2011, but that whole UFC 139 card was a standout. Well worth a download if you can find it.
Victor Belfort on his winning spree. This before he went out backwards. I said forget the cage, and take it to the street, without rules, without gloves, and against REAL martial artist. Like the Shou Shu guys.
UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship, its just the name of an organization. There's a few out there, EliteXC, WEC, StrikeForce etc.. MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) came about from a culmination of different styles. People realized advantages from the different arts. So those involved in the fight game began training in the various styles of martial arts, boxing, wrestling, bjj etc... hence the term Mixed Martial Arts. Entertaining, but you got to be nutz to get in that cage
I love the UFC/MMA! My favorite matchup of all time was Lyoto Machida vs Shogun Rua 1. I love the clash of styles, and the fact it was a back and forth war. Highly recommended.
Mixed Martial Arts or MMA can be termed as the sport and Ultimate Fighting Championship. It is a combination of several schools of fighting. Most of the fighters of MMA are trained in wrestling, boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai Kickboxing. Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC is a United States based organization, which is aimed at the promotion of martial arts. It is just like NBA and basketball, where the former is the organization and the other one is a sport. In short, MMA is the sports and UFC is the organization.
