Windows is more user friendly in terms of normal users usee... others are more better in terms of servers
Macs are based on Unix. As is ChromeOS (Linux) and Android. So, no, other operating systems are not just better for servers.
Ubuntu is indeed Unix based and although quite powerful there's quite a bit of getting used to it if you're a seasoned Windows user. I always feel Unix gives you more control of whats happening under the hood - if you know what you're doing
both of them are good however most of software and games are developed for windows platform but for virus protection ubonto is works good
No. I'm knowledgeable. My comments are based on facts and experience. Almost all comments on DP are based on fanboy-isms, hearsay, and things people read on forums without any real knowledge of the subject.
Yes. There are 123,672 editors for Windows but only 1972 for *nix/BSD so that makes Windows better
Ubuntu 10.10 is the latest distro release by the developers, and I am using that, as well as Windows 7. After trying multiple versions of Windows and Linuxes, I realised that I cannot say one is better than the other. Somehow or another, I ended up having to use both at some stage.
Ubuntu is great if you're running a server. But for everyday and work usage. Many will still use Windows. I've never seen a company using Ubuntu as their OS before.
comparing Ubuntu with vista Windows or mirror its a bad idea because windows not a free OS like Ubunto also most of software and games are bashed on windows OS
i think Ubuntu (linux) gonna most popular Os in near time,, its easy, its fast, its secure and most probably it is opensource, so why will people pay for operating system which is less secure... ubuntu now have WINE which can run any window's software, its some difficult now but when it become some easy i think many people will migrate to Ubuntu , m also using ubuntu 10.10 which works great...
Not really It becomes a pain when trying to run the following products: Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, MS Office applications, etc.
Yup i know its not that easy to use Wine and it becomes pain to installing these professional Microsoft Applications, but i hope "Wine" ll be easy to use with its new versions as they are working to make it simple that any one can use it without making mess...
That's why Windows will fail. It's a pain to get Windows to run the following products: emacs, anything from gnu, dia, gimp, etc. All those professional applications.
You are new to Linux. Am I right ? Ubuntu is opensource ( not most probably as you say ); Not all Windows targeted applications can be emulated with Wine.
Windows 7 vs Ubuntu Windows 7 Wins its great fast and effecient Windows vista vs unbuntu ubuntu wins Windows vista poor performance very buggy
In Ubuntu you have Synaptic which allows you to search for and install packages form available repositories. From a console type "sudo synaptic" or go to System Menu => Administration => Synaptic Package Manager. You'll find that for every software category there are literally dozens of packages and various variants for every conceivable purpose which can be installed at the click of a button.
