Ubuntu Error - Help me

    I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my System

    After logging in I get a blank screen with cursor

    and

    I get these errors when I type startx in the command prompt

    Server is already for active display 0.. if this server is no longer available remove /tmp/.X0-lock/

    and also

    xinit:Server
    xinit:Server

    what should I do to get Ubuntu working

    I love Ubuntu and Linux however I am not familar with them .
    Are there any place to view the system log like windows ? :D

    No I installed it using the CD

    I installed it within windows

    Did you use WUBI? If yes, uninstall. For ubuntu support I would recommend
    ubuntuforums.org

    Do you mean install KDE on Ubuntu? You make a PARTITION for the Linux. Format the Linux as ext3 is a pretty good choice. Then Ubuntu has software that reads the NTFS data files. To run about 70% of Windows software, you have to add a package called WINe. First link is what we call a 'HowTo' 2nd link is ubuntu forums.
