I read this quote and laughed, because its the absolute truth. That is exactly why I'm about to get my concealed weapons permit and buy me a gun.

Does anyone know of a handgun model that has a safety mechanism with it? I want to get a handgun, but I want one that allows me to turn on safety.

It is a good thing, I agree. If the U.S. government turns into a dictatorship, they have to contend with millions of armed Americans. If a foreign country invades, they also have to contend with the same. I guess that may be one of the reasons why the U.S. isn't totally gone yet...

Other countries don't have guns, and look at them, most of them suck. Take Mexico for instance. I have nothing against Mexico or Mexican people. Mexico is a beautiful country with beautiful women, and a rich history. Unfortunately, you're not allowed to have guns there, and look at the corruption of the government. In Mexico, calling the cops can be dangerous, because they are often the criminals.

An Armed America is a free America. The day we turn in our guns, the country is finished.

The type of gun, and features, should depend on what you plan on doing with it... Are you going to leave it next to your bed, in your car, carry it with you, shoot targets for fun...

Also, as far as I'm concerned, there are three types of "safety"...
    1) internal ... don't require the user to remove the safety... Example, the glock trigger safety makes sure that the firearm won't discharge until the trigger is pulled...

    2) external ... like a switch, or a tab, requiring the user to "disable" the safety before the firearm can discharge...

    3) the person ... there's no substitute for experience and knowledge when it comes to firearm safety... I'd recommend classes, then shoot, a lot, to get familiar with the weapon...

    I couldn't agree more...

    Well said...

For the sake of statistical truth, I own about 40 of those and texas itself accounts for about 100 million of those so it doesnt necessarily mean 9/10 americans own a gun.

So all you 39 people who dont own guns, you should be thanking me for picking up your slack.

Is that legal? When I lived in TN there was a law, you could only own so many (11?) before it was considered an "arsenal"...

The Glock has a nice safety.

Of course the constitutional right to bear arms was put there to make sure the people never were as powerless as they are in other countries. That concept is lost on many.

I agree. Used to own a Glock 19, great weapon... But I wouldn't recommend it to a person with no experience. It has no external safety, which could be dangerous in the hands of a novice...

I live in TX but I think you can own more than 11 guns here without it being considered an arsenal. But its still not a problem because I only have 5 guns in texas the rest are in canada.

Any gun can be dangerous in the hands of a novice. I assume he's getting gun training along with the concealed carry permit.

Agreed, any weapon can be dangerous... But, personally, I recommend an external safety if it's a person's first handgun...

A guy I knew (while learning how to shoot) used a Glock, and shot himself in the knee while trying to holster the weapon... I honestly believe that if he was using a beretta or something, it wouldn't have happened...

I agree with this,my first handgun was an m9 though the increased possibility of shooting yourself in the foot or knee could force him to be more careful.

That's a good take on it... If he realizes that there's the associated increased risk, he might be more careful... I guess it just depends on the person...

I just hate hearing stories of accidental discharges; especially when they hit someone...

    ROFL!!!

    american stupidity at it's best!

A recent poll concluded that 25% of americans couldn't point out their own country on a map.

And then there was that australian reporter who interviewed americans in the street asking them to say countries whose names started with the letter u.

Some of the answers were Utah, Yugoslavia and Utopia. No one said United States of America.

Reminds me of the time I was in New York speaking to a local there. I told the guy I was from South Africa and he goes, "Yeah, I have a friend who lives in Morocco, maybe you will know."

Jesus does every one in the US own a gun, and Glochs for heavens sake.
Is it legal to own full auto?
