Typing a racists word at work with weird results

basically is was on the myspace forum i not sure it was like 2 weeks ago but I state my feelings on the word nigger and aparently she thought she could sue me for it

 

But some people do have opinions that are offensive to others. I'm not saying your comments were necessarily offensive, since I don't know what you said, but it's good to keep in mind that people might read more into what you wrote than what you meant. I personally think you should apologize because she is your coworker and was clearly offended. You have a privileged position at work because your supervisor is a relative, so a reprimand is probably unlikely. However, stuff like this between coworkers can make for an unpleasant work environment - unpleasant for you, unpleasant for her, and unpleasant for your supervisor.

It's also important to note that in some places your employer can be sued for allowing a "hostile work environment". That means that if she goes to your supervisor with complaints, and he does nothing, she could sue. If the only incident is this one posting on a message board, she might not have much of a case. However, if you've made other comments or jokes at work along the same lines, there could be a case, even if you didn't mean any harm.

 

Man, She cant do jack shit. First of all it is not a very big of a deal now may be for her but do you really think she is going to spend hundreds of dollars preparing a lawsuite against you. If that was the 80% of people in US would be sued by now just by using word NIGGER. Do you think she have so much time and money to waste and in result she is not going to get a million dollar you are not microsoft bill gates either. Well if she sues you and spend atleast $300( Minimal cost for legal proceedings in civil court ) and if she loses you can sue her for lossing oppurtunity( Time, Money etc) So dont band your head just for this
