Hello, What does everyone think about this: It's been studied that certain traffic does not respond well to contextual ads (i.e. techies, digg news users, etc) and certain types that click a lot as if nothing (usually a bit less tech savvy). I've know a site that reviews surf boards gets a huge conversion and makes more revenue than an internet marketing blog that gets far more unique traffic. So from your experience, what types of niches have visitors that actively respond and click ads? And which don't? This can demonstrate which niches are better to publish on and which are less, not to say make an "Adsense site". cheers!
I get high CTR from pages on topics like Home Improvement, Loans and Credit (surprise, surprise!), Home Entertainment Centers, Dogs, etc than from Sony PSP, Guitars (that's surprising to me), Photography, etc. I can't draw any conclusion from my experience, except to probably generalize that the less techy the topic is, the better. A friend of mine has a page on shipbuilding, ship maintenance, dock operations which does very well in CTR and also the value of each click - "Old World" topics and industries pay a fair bit. Speaking of old world, my Prefabricated Buildings pages did very well, but have since dropped in rankings - sigh.
I find that webmasters rarily click on ads. After a while, many of them probably don't even see the ads. Part of it is that they have seen the ads (or similar ads) hundreds of times before.
I clicked on ads before. This normally happens when u're desperately looking for information. Eg I was looking for video cameras, web development software, getting my newborn twins to sleep well, and I've clicked on links and even bought one product at the end.
I agree with Canadianeh I barely see the ads anymore. I think newbies to the internet are more likely to read what is on an ad and be tempted to click. But where do newbies go and what do they like to do online? The time it takes for a newbie to lost their curiosity will vary too.
I automatically put the blinders on to ads, can't help it. I'm guessing non tech savvy people would respond better to blended schemes, and more tech savvy people will only notice if you're alternating your colors and styles. I'm guessing that's why Digital Point forums use bright colors Actually there's times where I exit a page missing the content I was looking for because the page was blended too well... only to turn up at that page again later and realise there was actually some non-ad content.
Thanks for the input. So I guess forums like this don't generate much from Adsense (even though they use bright colors and ad turnover is lots since more of the marketers use adwords)? A forum like Talkgold seems to generate a lot of revenue for them, eh?
ya i agree. i hardly ever click, cause i always know what to expect from them. Actually i wanted to see if people who don't really know about adsense stuff, to see if they would notice them when they are blended. I was showing that recent site to my friend, plentyoffish.com, he couldn't tell what so ever, and when i pointed it out he was quite shocked he thought it was some kind of menu lol. Moreover, I also recently started blending my ads within the pages, and there was quite a difference, it trippled my clicks. Seemed to me i read somewhere in here that this forum was actually making quite a bit from adsense.
I love to click on Adsense ads when i search for something on Google.com , don't know why... Let's say i need hosting, some ads are more effective then frist 10 results...
why don't people click on ads they know are google ads? even if it interests you. is it because you don't want that person to make money that you know they will make if you click it? do you type the url in the bar instead of clicking it?
Me too I don't click on ads, am like blind to them now Some days back I was training girl to SEO, was explaining Directory submission to her.. cool but guess what! when we get to the submission page to submit she clicked on the "Add Url" ads displayed by google!! & this happened with more than 3 dirs! I think many people are "fooled" by these types of ads on the submission page mostly newbies..
but why are you blind to them? is it because you've told yourself no matter what im not clicking on those ads to give that user money?
Really!! Am sure u already know a lot more than me in this field! Not exactly, when I searh something on google, I am spoiled with the result I get, if I am on an interesting website why would I want to click on the ads, unless they have a really interesting title.. I think it's just as reading newspapers, if an ad is interesting you gonna contact the seller or buy his stuffs if not you just leave it there
not bashing on anyone but i've seen it alot on these forums. everyone says they're either blind to the ads or they don't click on them. imho it's come down to a few things i can think of, 1 being you don't want that user gaining money by clicking that ad so you either ignore it or type the url in the addy bar instead. if it interests you then you should click it as others do the same it's how adsense works.
thats why you right click and open in new page. either read it then or finish with the page then read the newly opened page. for me thats 2nd nature though.
