Following the rapid initial expansion of this directory we are making some changes in the payment structure:

Featured links are no longer yearly subscriptions. All featured links are now permanent. The new price is $4.99

We are starting paid regular links today. The price is still more than affordable - $1.49 for a permanent link. The main reason to do that is to filter out spam submissions. I'm sure those legit sites owners would find the price fair.

If your site development budget is extra tight (who's isn't?) we are still offering free reciprocal links so please take advantage of that.

    Thank you for your time!

Congratulations on moving from free to paid. What sort of page rank are you hoping for on the next PR update?

By the way, the site does not load when www. is used before the domain.

Thanks! I am not too sure about what PR to expect. Do you know any reliable tool for that?

There is no www version. The canonical name is just typelinks.com www.typelinks.com forwards 301 to typelinks.com If you are using a browser, there should be no problem. If you are using an automated tool of some sort, it would be nice if it can handle couple redirects.

I wonder if anyone else is having a problem with www.typelinks.com ? Please respond here or PM me.

    Thanks!

I've checked with firefox and IE, www.typelinks.com doesn't work for me.

According to iwebtool www.typelinks.com should have a page rank of 5:eek:

Hmm... Maybe you are onto something, mistermix. I have just recently 301-ed the www to non-www. Maybe I should consider doing it the other way around instead...

Anyways, I'm not exactly sure why it does not work for you but it works both way www and non-www for me in FF and IE. Will investigate further, thank you for the tip!

    Thanks again.

Just wanted to throw a question related the the thread:

Now that the status or non-recip links has changed from free to inexpensive :D , do you guys think I should remove captchas?

Please post about how's your experience been operating a directory without captcha.

    Thanks!

It depends on how well known your directory is amongst the spammers. I would just reduce the difficulty level of the captcha.

Getting rid of the captchas is one way of filtering out the spammers. What version are you running? Also, think about turning into a registered service if you have anything to offer your submitters.

Hmm... You'd think be removing them you'll actually make spammers' job easier, right?

I got PHPLD3. Also, I think that having submitters register will add yet another obstacle that will turn customers away. I don't want that for now. Well, maybe when it becomes PR7 some time soon... ;)

I meant that by removing captchas and making submittal paid for regular links should be a first level barrier against the spamming hordes. Keeping your recips. available still allows you some form of checking to make sure your link is visible on linking site. However, your validation process will be more frequent if you need to keep tabs on recips.

Understood, but I think that having both easy captchas and paid regular links will put even more damp on the spam. Well, hopefully.

Anyways - you are correct about recips - it is such a hassle to keep track of them! I am actually a bit intimidated by the way the automated verification happens in PHPLD3 . I am not entirely sure if I should even do this process automatically because I'm afraid it will disable good links because I used to have free non-recips before.
