Two sites - does performance on one affect the other?

I have two sites with AdSense; my newly-launched one has a lot of traffic (much of it Russian) but a slightly low CPM, but my established keyword-rich authority (I hope!) site has taken a hit in CPM, with clicks dropping from 20-30 cents to about 8 cents on the same as ever traffic pattern. I get about 30-60 clicks per day.

Can one poor-performing site somehow drag down another within the same account? The answer must be "no", but I'm trying to find an explanation for my recent hit in earnings that's making me seriously think about ditching AdSense. Or did I escape the PR slap for selling links but instead get a hidden penalty through AdSense?

I think so too,.. (my opinion) is alot of impressions and few clicks on 1 site can make clicks pay less on another.. with same account..
It just seems this way with me but i have no proof to back this up..

Try a few less ads on the lower site.. remove poor performing ads on the lower site and see if your money doesnt get better on teh other.. i think it will it did for me :)

Right or wrong ive felt this from the beginning with my sites but only been 1 year with adsense.. in nov..

Each time i remove some ads from the poorer sites the others pay much better..:)

Thanks guys, that seems to describe my situation. I'll kill one of my two AdSense blocks and see what happens. I've also downloaded some code to detect IP country of origin, so I might hide AdSense altogether from non-US/CA/UK/AU visitors to see what happens.

BTW, I am just about to launch a new feature that will get me even more Russian traffic, I suspect - any suggestions for a replacement for AdSense? Widget Bucks sounds nice, but complaints are beginning to build up.

PS: When you get smartpriced like this, does Google pocket the difference or does it get returned to advertisers?

Id stick with adsense.. btw i get traffic from all over the world..
i dont think google is like some ppc companys that discrimanate on countries they dont realy care what countrys your traffic comes from you dont have to worry about that...

ps im expirementing with widget bucks but so far all ive got is the 25 bucks to sign up lol..
lots of impressions but no widget bucks clicks for some reason but im making good each month with adsense from 1 year so..

oh and google only returns money to advertisers in the case of invalid clicks or if a publisher violates the terms of service..

(you can trust me on this google doesnt care what country your traffic comes from id leave that alone)

Anyway good luck friend.. wish you all the best witrh adsene and im happy to help in any way.. because other ppls on this forum has helped me so much :D

Thanks for the tips and info, people!

I've now removed AdSense completely from the poorly-performing site, so I'll keep watching for a week to see if my earnings recover. If they do, it's a pretty poor show from Google to link two sites like that. It might also go some way to explaining why a friend of mine in the same niche (although he runs other sites too) gets a much lower CPM.
