Two Pages Listed In Same Search

What is it called when you get two of your web pages listed for the same search where the second page is indented immediately after the first?

Next question - How can you do this on purpose?

I've been having it happen to my websites of late after I used another technique when obtaining links for SEO purposes. I've noticed traffic improve aswell.

Then somedays, the idented page is gone just like that, then a couple days later , it reappears.

For example if I have a page about cars, and I have www.site.com and www.site.com/red-cars.php

    If I get links like this <a href="http://www.site.com">red cars</a> and <a href="http://www.site.com/red-cars.php">red cars</a>

The indentation occurs or if it doesn't the other page is likely to be a couple pages back in the search listings.

    That's what I've found anyway!

Its called an indented result and it happens when google thinks that more than 1 page from your site are useful for the searcher.

If your main page targets blue widgets then create a sub page optimised for blue widgets and point a few hundred external links at the page with blue widgets as the anchor text.

It means that the search engine believes that two of your pages rank for the search terms requested by the user.

Nothing you can do to affect this.
