I spent about a month working on my web site, writing copy, and article submission, all put together. Now I have about 166 links as crawled by Google bot. Now it is 2 months since and I haven't worked on it for a month now. So, two months and my back link count is 166. I don't know whether it is alright. Yahoo shows a similar number counting out forum signatures. I have submitted about 6-7 articles to directories. Is that good progress?
Sounds reasonable. It could be a lot higher, it could be 166 links lower! You need to look at your competitors, figure out how long they have been around and try to estimate what their growth curve probably looked like. Link growth is self-reinforcing so bigger sites growth tends to accelerate as they age. The super white hat answer is to worry less about total BL's and focus on really good quality, relevant links from authority sites. It's easier said than done.
its such a relative thing, but looks like you're going organic and going slow. so good for you.. how many are reciprocal, how many are one-way, how many deep links, their PR, relevance, all these things count.
I have no reciprocal links as I am yet to concentrate on growing them. Yes, I have chosen to organic, for the moment. Now I think, it will pickup momentum from now on. I may submit a few more articles next month to directories. I think a good 30-40% of my links are deep links.
Also remember, your link relevancy is a major part of the equation... are you linking to similar themes as yours? The big G has a filter to deduce too many irrelevant links you have... so you can shoot yourself in the foot with linking.
Yes! I am aware of this. But this is what exposes their double standards. They speak of democratic nature of web but this... Well, this is not the thread for it.
Google doesnt show many even though they count them, you can tell cause you rise in search when you pump them.
Yeah, I've had about 63 unique hits from google, yahoo, msnbot, askjeevs. Googlebot has over 300 visits on my site in the past 4-5 days. I've had the site up for a few days.
Kngavl, I've been submitting to directories, posting as much as I can in forums, social bookmarking the works... and I'll be happy with a few hundred. How did you get 2000 and what did you mean by you didnt work too hard to get them? Did you use a paid submission service? Thanks in advance!
Some SEO say that google frowns on gaining too many links on a new site; also can you keep up getting 2000 backlinks a month? Wouldn’t you think that Google might assume the site is using black hat methods to get so may links? If you want I will give 5400 instantaneous links to your site, free of charge: http://telalinks.com/ Would you want it? You dont even have to work on linking that much.....
I think this is very pertinent. Having back links is important but it is more important to have them more naturally, if not organically, and regularly. G will definitely raise an eyebrow. I see an analogy to this with having right connections at right places as important than having more connections at wrong places.
