Hi, I'm developing two Drupal websites and now looking for a host. I have never used Drupal before, and all my hosting experiences are with shared hosting. Since I have read lately a lot about problems with performance of Drupal sites on various shared hosts, I decided to look for a VPS. Managed, since I don't have skills to manage it by myself. From what I read I have concluded that for one low-mid traffic Drupal site with few modules active, I'll need 200-250MB RAM. How much will I need for two websites on same VPS? Double? Should I use one Drupal installation for both sites? Does that mean I don't need double amount of RAM? Thanks
Having two drupal sites doesn't mean you need double the amount of RAM. It all depend on how much traffic your sites are getting. The more traffic , the more resource your vps need to power your drupal sites. For a start, go with 256-512mb ram for your vps. This should be sufficient for the time being. -- Joseph
Thanks for the advice. I have found provider who is offering fully managed vps plan with 432 MB RAM for only $30 plus a lot of features not provided by other vps hosting companies. So I'll host my sites with them.
Fully managed vps plan with 432 MB RAM at $30/month - I highly doubt it. Might be it's just semi-managed, that they can fix error when you let them know. Fully management means the vendor takes care server all the times, backup data, fix error whenever it happens, even before you can notice
get atleast 512mb of ram because if you are running a server control panel like plesk or cpanel, it will help. RAM is cheap nowdays and if need be go for 1gb. You can manage the server yourself and you just need to know few linux commands. see: www.mysql-apache-php.com
