Two domains show same rank in results?

    I track the kw/p "plastic caps" for our domain as well as a few of our competitors. The KW tracker shows the same rank for our site and for our competitor. Both show a rank of 2 in the serps. In real life, we are #3 and our competitor is #2 (not really sure why, but that's a different post). How is it that the KW tracker can show the same rank for two different domains?

    My guess is there is some fluctuation in the rankings. The keyword tracker only records what the best ranking for the day is. So if you look up your keywords more than once a day, you may get things like that.

    Hmmm, no, I only check the stats once a day. So I don't think that would be the case. I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever seen something like this?

    Are the keywords/phrase exactly the same? If so, then it's most likely just data center flux.

    mopacfan: Sounds like you have a serious "battle" going on for that #2 spot as you guys are swapping spots - I've seen this myself ... in fact, when using the regular Google Search, hit the reload button and you'll sometimes see 'em move around (I've seen this with my manometer page) - this is probably different data centers reporting slightly different (close) results ... only "real" solution is on/off-page optimization so you CRUSH 'em!

    We've definitely been battling it out. I don't think I can top #1 due to the difference in ibl's. But I'm most happy w/ #2 which is where were are now (2 & 3) at least till the next update.
