Two Blogs on one domain?

    Hi.
    I am thinking of starting up a new personal blog, which will also advertise my writing services and also have a section for downloads (ebooks I've written and that sort of thing), but what I really want to do is have a different blog for the downloads.

    So, basically, the homepage of the site will be my personal blog, and then when you go on the downloads link at the top it's a different blog (domain.com/downloads). So, on the main page the categories are different to those in the download page.

    How do I do this?

    Do I just need to create a new MySQL database, and then put all the wordpress files in a subfolder as well as the root files?

    Thanks in advance.

    If you have some auto-installer like Fantastico or Simple Scripts on your cpanel, just tell it to install a new WordPress blog in a subfolder of your main domain, not the root folder.

    Something like: http://www.yourdomain.com/downloads

    Yeah, it's possible to have more than one blog on a domain name. Like themanbeast9 said above, just upload / install the WordPress files to the "downloads" directory, and run the WordPress installer.

    You can also install the WordPress blog into the same database, just use a different " $table_prefix = 'wp_'; "

    Like, you installed the first personal blog on:

    wp_

    Just make your second installed blog on:

    wp2_

    And both databases would be under the same database, just one will be for your second "downloads" site, using "wp2_ " table prefix, instead of your first one. I hope that helps.

    EDIT: Oh, if you're using Fantastico then... just install the WP blog into the "downloads" directory, and be done. :D

    You might need to edit .htaccess so that domain.com/downloads doesn't give you a 404 from the main blog.

    just another suggestion - have you considered drupal? that might make it easy to do your blog and then also manage your other content as well.

    If the OP is just installing two blogs, in two separate locations and is only linking to the other blog in "downloads" directory, I don't think he/she will need to do much with the .htaccess file at all. As there would be two separate blogs, two separate directories.

    main domain = its own blog.
    downloads = its own blog as well.

    Both blogs would have their own .htaccess files as far as I know. Unless of course, he/she wants to do something specific with the blogs, which I'm not sure.

    Seems like a lot of work. Can't you incorporate the 2 and just use sub categories for your download links?
    There are also a few wordpress plug ins that manage downloads with stats, and different side bar link set ups (some with drop down menus ) that will help to simplify and organize it.

    Off the top of my head, it seems that finding a way to incorporate the 2, the content, and the utilities or ebooks will give your blog more substance, and possibly a better user experience.
    Just my 2 cents.

    cpanel > subdomain > add appropriate domain. Something like:

    yoursite.com --> main blog
    downloads.yoursite.com --> 2nd blog

    The best set up would be...

    Main blog = MyDomain.com
    Your Store = MyDomain.com/store

    Make sure you use e-Junkie for delivering your products and get the E-commerce Theme for your store. Let me know if you need help after purchasing it.
