Hey people, If a person clicks on my affiliate link then they click on someone else’s affiliate link and go on to buy the product, who gets credited with the commission?? Sorry I know this question has prob been asked on here before but I couldn’t hunt it down… Thanks for your answers!!!
The other affiliate does, in your example. It's always the "most recently clicked one". This is exactly why it's such a bad idea to become an affiliate for a product with a vendor's opt-in on the sales page, because when you do that, sometimes the potential customers you've found with your time, energy, skills, effort and money receive a series of autoresponder emails from the vendor containing affiliate-links to the product you were promoting, and the affiliate-links in question turn out to belong to the vendor or his wife. Clickbank allows this, and we've all seen it happen many times! I'm not saying all vendors will do this, but like many other professional affiliates, I started making a living the day I stopped being an affiliate for any product which has a vendor's opt-in on the sales page. Simple.
The last affiliate gets the commission, which is why it's a good idea to target keywords which are late in the buying cycle. The more generic keywords will get more searches, but once the searcher has made the decision they want to buy a product, they will search for more obscure keywords to find the most suitable program.
