Twitter vs Stumbleupon - Scalability

So far Twitter seems "scalable". By that I mean the more decent followers I add, the more page hits I get. I am curious, though, about Stumbleupon, which I have just started using.

To me it seems like SU is not really scalable, i.e. you can really only build up so many followers in your niche. Am I looking at that right?

I'm going to read SU anyway - it's a great resource actually - but I was just curious if you quickly reach an upper max of page hits that you can get from it?

    Thx.

SU can generate good traffic to your website but the traffic happen only in very short period. By the way, personally i prefer twitter than SU

If the page bookmark is good and get lots of votes then SU will actually send you decreasing but more consistent traffic. This is because some people will always be using the toolbar to stumble pages and some of the people will continue to stumble on your pages if they are good content and have votes.

Twitter on the other hand is "seasonal". After the initial Tweet and the retweets have dies down you will get no traffic from there.

I think Twitter keeps going - at least so far I have been able to keep the flow going - but you have to do a lot of posts, make them catchy, make them pretty fresh and so on. The bottom line is that it's a lot of work but it does seem to build a nice steady flow of traffic with even a little growth built in.

It sounds like people don't really see the same thing with SU?

lol... SU and twitter both are good in their own way since they are not the same service u know. and webmasters are using SU for last couple of years and still getting good results.

I don't doubt that for a minute and that's originally why I started on SU. However, now I am on SU mostly for finding pertinent articles for my niche. But I think you missed my underlying question which was about scalability.

In other words, does SU peak or max out at a certain point? And it sounds like the answer is 'yes' from what most people are saying...

Agreed. I haven't run the numbers, but I believe I'm getting more page hits now from Twitter than Google and Yahoo combined.

Thanks for the info. I just signed up with SU in the hope of increasing traffic, but it sounds like I just need to spend more time on Twitter to increase my following.

As someone who has only been semi-active on Twitter over the past three months, and an active StumbleUpon user for almost 2 years, my opinion may come off slightly biased, yet still relevant.

When I post a link on Twitter, I will see some traffic go to that link, and if it gets retweeted, some more traffic will go to that link. And that's about it. I've rarely seen a retweet drawing traffic to that same link after a week or two (at the most).

Once something gets Stumbled, it can find new traffic years later. Posts that were Stumbled in early 2008 will still get traffic now. I've come across items on Stumble that I thought were new and were over two years old.

With stumbleupon if you do the right thing then you get massive amount of traffic for a very short period of time. The traffic also views your single page and then leaves.
But with twitter you might be able to get a good amount of loyal followers who will be great quality traffic for your pages.

I think for me SU can give your site enormous page loads but i'm not so sure in it's traffic output. In regards with Twitter, I haven't monitored it yet if it does generate traffic for my sites.

I still prefer SU over twitter for now. But that may change in the coming months.

I personally like Twitter, this is easy to use and the best way to increase your blog traffic . Twitter is without a doubt the best way to share and discover what is happening right now.

I have both account in Twitter and Stumble and I have seen
what the two can give me..

Stumbleupon - one day you have a huge traffic and after a day
or so it was gone.. (though I can really get a traffic on this SB site)

Twitter - I'm not too much active but I also get traffic here, but not
too much. Maybe it's because I'm not too much active.
