A google search turns a bunch of results from August 2008 where people are complaining about being limited at around 2000. But many of the accounts I see mentioned in those articles/posts are now following a lot more than 2000 people.
Yeah, I think Twitter is just a bunch of piffle. Does anybody remember how it used to be everyone need to be on Friendster? Then it was MySpace. Now Facebook is reaching oversaturation point and also Digg seems to be just about peaking--- and Twitter is momentarily taking their place. But really. I don't like anybody in the world enough to want to receive their damn Twitters every five seconds. To me it's like the kid who demands attention constantly: "Lookit me! Lookit me! I made a poo, lookit me!" "Mama mama ma m ma ma ma ma ma ma !" YUCK. Tell me those Twitters or Tw*ts or whatever are making you major moolah and then I'll be interested. To me it just seems like tribal conditioning and mind control at this point.
I'm with you, I don't really understand the fascination with living on people's every sentence. I have used twitter for over 6 months and have yet to understand the fascination with the site. There are some very wise people on twitter and I follow for their expertise but for seo it doesn't seem to cut it.
Networking with people of your ilk. That's what twitter's good for if you manage to do it. Twitter serves that function better than Digg. Other than that, there's nothing much to it.
There is one difference between Digg and Twitter (as far as advertising). When you get on the first page of digg, hundreds of thousands of people see your website. However not all of them will be interested. On twitter, you have to put a lot more effort into making sure that those same thousands see your website, but everyone that follows you is interested in your niche.
Better yet, what's Jesus' Twitter account I'm officially on the search for the strangest twitter profiles
