    Twitter is a great and fun tool to connect with people. I still the old-school forums will over rule longer term. The layout of forums is much better and the information is much more useful. Especially since you can type more than 140 characters.

    Not to mention the organizing that forums have and many of the other features.

    I use twitter to follow people I share interest with, and sharing my blog posts and stuff I find interesting. I only twit a few times per day, so I'm not a spammer.

    It's very easy to add followers. Just follow the famous ones and their followers will soon follow you. That is if you are just socializing.

    However, you can should choose the ones you follow if you want to make money from them. Either selling your own product or through affiliate marketing.

    Connect with and interact with your existing followers and followees in a meaningful manner.

    Don't just spam twitter with sales pitches but really engage in meaningful conversations.

    You'll find that your followers increase organically as those you currently interact with start to retweet your posts and interact with you more regularly.

    Also ... be sure you have a clear and inviting bio along with a real picture on your profile.

    Sales on Twitter are secondary and a byproduct of making good connections.
