Is Twitter marketing a fad, or is it here to stay?

If it is here to stay, how can businesses utilize it?

Social media marketing, be it Twitter or Facebook is here to stay. Social media platforms enable brands to communicate with their existing customers and acquire new customers. Twitter can be very useful in engaging with prospective customers as it is a broadcasting medium.

The only question is how you utilize twitter to market a brand. On one end of the scale there are companies that use innovative marketing strategies to bring hundreds of thousands of new followers! On the other end some even buy twitter followers (which is not a marketing strategy in my view).

I agree with sprinter, Twitter is most certainly not going anywhere any time soon. There is of course the fear that Twitter/Facebook will at some point go the way of MySpace, but I have never understood this argument. MySpace failed so dismally because it had a horrible interface and design. Facebook and Twitter on the other hand are continually working on user experience, and even though some don't agree with the changes (like Timeline), they seem to be going in the right direction.

That’s exactly how I feel about it. I am not a Twitterer, yet. And I don’t know if I will be, but I’m often slow to jump on fadish bandwagons. I’m waiting to see if it will be something that would be valuable to me to use, or just another time-waster like Facebook and MySpace and LinkedIn have turned out to be for me. Remember when LinkedIn was “the next great thing?” Yeah, me too.

I got this idiology from Brendawatson.com

Social media marketing may or may not work for you but it depends on what you’re using it for and how much time you invest in it. In my personal experience Twitter, FB, and linkden have all generated a ton of success for our many businesses. If you only make one tweet a day, you’re not likely to see many results. You need to be diligent and make sure you are following others in your niche.

It's here to stay. Teh best way to use it is to be real and human, and not spam people. Care about your followers!
