Are you on Twitter yet? If yes, how are you doing with your marketing tactics and strategies for this growing 1,000,000+ network?
I haven't tried twitter yet, although I'm planning to add that to my marketing campaigns. I've heard it really is effective, but takes more time from the marketer in that he should update his twitter many times a day.
It's worked out fairly well for me. The key (for me) has been to be social, interact in a social manner, and not just be a twitter spammer. Perry Belcher has a great approach to using social networking and that is to treat it like a big online party where you get to know people, interact, have a little fun, et c... Along the way, I'm making some connections and have picked up a few clients as a result. It's a lot of fun. Some times, I'm "tweeting" about business. Other times, it's about family stuff, basketball, personal development, etc...
I find that the key to Twitter is to become friends with your followers. Auto DMs that state you have the answer to all problems and can make everyone thousands per month if they buy your eBook will LOSE you followers and potential clients. You will look like a snake oil salesman. Interact with them, don't spam them, and don't act like you have all the answers. Perry Belcher is a great example because he does not act like he knows all the secrets. He acts like a normal guy. While I don't agree with his past antics and I abhor the thought of him selling false hope to people through supplements, I can't deny that he is a great marketer.
Yeh, depends on what use you want to put it thru. Some over at twitters have thousands they follow, so you would lose the personal touch if you want to keep up-to-date with your own circle of friends.
I've been using it successfully to connect with small business owners and that has lead to gaining some new clients. The search function helps find good people to follow. Being part of the community is key. Advice I posted has been retweeted by people with large numbers of followers and one person even promoted me to their followers after I helped her fix an issue with her website. On Twitter here
Twitter works great for me as well. It is number 2 source of my traffic and I get in touch with many different people there. I would definitely recommend registering and looking for people that are interested in the topic you write about.
Even though I am fairly new to twitter, I am starting to receive some daily traffic. ... and it's a lot of fun. Still trying to figure out how to use it professionally. Follow me - jens -
I am on Twitter and have gotten over 150 followers in the past week alone. In terms of marketing campaigns, I have not yet started any vigorous ones. I will be doing that as my following increases. Right now I am concentrating on increasing my followers.
I have heard good things about twitter, but for the life of me can't seem to get the hang of it or understand it. Any good guides on using it ?
The way it's working for me is like this: 1. If I want to use it for marketing and ($) and not just socializing, it's best to start right from the beginning. For example, if I want to sell ebooks/programs/scripts/memberships/etc. I only focus on followers who are more likely to be interested in these types of things. They're more targeted. So my followers would basically be into Internet Marketing and not Golf. 2. I personally don't have much time just to chit chat and socialize without a return on my investment for the time used on Twitter. I just glance over and see what's going and do DM here and there. 3. The profile you create has to be interesting and like other said here, spamming with offers will turn people off. But the number of marketers on Twitter is exploding already. I mean look at Mike Filsame, Joel Comm, etc. They all have over 10,000 followers. I have seen as high as 60,000! It's like a huge subscribers list! 4. Not every link and every post is SPAM. Spam is too generalized. Spam is now connected with offers. It shouldn't be so because some offers are actually really good. I have run into great biz opportunities and sites as a result of some marketer sending me a link via Twitter. Some people are Spam paranoid. If it isn't a link about someone's cat with blue eyes or the latest Stimulus Plan news, then it's Spam. Paranoia. 5. Marketers have found Twitter to be a gold-mine. Not to sell products ON Twitter itself, but as a springboard to mailings lists, blogs, membership sites, etc. It's a point of contact so to speak. 6. Twitter has its own internal methods to avoid real, not perceived spam and these methods work very well. They're no dummies over there. 7. I've just developed a tool for marketers and will be promoting it shortly. I posts to Twitter based on your IP and only once. The poster gets a free gift. The trick is what gift to give in exchange for the post which carries my site with it to their followers. You can see a sample here: http://tweetsy.com 8. Twitter will most likely triple in size as it is becoming highly talked about and highly popular. I suspect they are going to build it up and then sell it. I bet Google is already eyeing Twitter and Twitter owners are wanting for the site to get into the Billions like Facebook. Face book acts like it hates Twitter. It tried to buy it and got turned down. Facebook offered a whopping $500,000,000 for Twitter but only in Stocks. I bet Twitter wants to reach the $2B mark before considering any offers. 9. Twitter is also great for polls and surveys. 10. It provides great ideas for bloggers. Need inspiration? Visit Twitter for topics to write about.
hmmm, this does sound very interesting. I'm sure I, and many others, will be looking into this a great deal. Thanks for a useful thread
Twitter? How much time do some people have? Between Blogging, Article, Forum Post, Commenting and Quest Post my hands hurt just thinking about it.
Well, the 140 character limit makes it a little easier- but I know what you mean. The hard part is that you do have to try to develop relationships by re-tweeting someone else's tweet (I sound like a moron ) and responding to things that your followers say. It's all part of becoming an online presence, I guess.
Twitter has proven it's value for me and my biz (more blog traffic etc), but I mainly love it because it allows me to socially interact with mty fellow-marketers
