We rely on the location switch on Twitter searches to find tweets in a certain geographical area. Until recently this would report on all matching tweets from accounts in the target location (ie using the location held in account bios) as well as reporting on relevant geotagged tweets. Has anyone else noticed in the past few days that only geotagged tweets are being reported now? This has reduced the number of tweets reported by a factor of 95%. I can't decide if this is a permanent change or a bug. What are your thoughts? Is there a secret search switch that will make the Twitter search use account bio location and not just look for geotagged tweets? This is an example of a search with a switch https://twitter.com/search?f=realtime&q=river thames near:london within:127mi&src=typd If you run it you'll see that the few reported Tweets all have the geotag symbol on the right hand side. If I had a time machine and could run this a week ago the results would include non-geotagged Tweets from people with "London" in the bio pages.
