Twitter is robot saturated

I have tried to use Twitter as a means to drive traffic to my site. It just does not seem to work. Here is what I have learned about Twitter.

First there are tons of robots or fake followers.
Way too many ads are being posted. It seems that everyone is selling something.
Not sure if there are any buyers reading the tweets.

Here is what I need to learn. I need to know how to get more real followers. I need to know how to properly use #hashtags. And I need to learn how to optimize my Twitter profile so I can earn using Twitter.

I would love some guidance here. If you know the answer or have a method then please help a brother out.

It's exactly as you say - everyone is marketing something, be it their product, themselves or their website. Don't be to concerned about lack of visitors from there, if you offer something decent that people want you will get retweets from your site - if you offer shit - then expect nothing. Have a look at the major news sites and major blogs - they don't get a lot of tweets either on their shit stories... it's their unique posts that offer something that get the tweets - and that's with their huge traffic amounts.

I can't post links, but there's a site you can use to use to purge your twitter followers from time to time. It's called manageflitter.com. I HIGHLY recommend it.

The best way to get real traffic is by helping people interacting with them. Remain in constant interaction with your followers dont bother about fake followers, just opt for only those who RT you or send direct messages to you.

I have found the best practice for getting real followers is to selectively follow interesting people/ businesses that you find through the advanced search, or looking at other's followers list. Don't just follow every troll on the list, but look for people who:
    1. Have a common interest
    2. Aren't simply offering sales deals all the time
    3. Talk directly to other people
    4. Tweet regularly and interestingly

After you follow a bunch of people that fit these credentials wait a week and purge your following list to drop the dead-beats that don't follow you back... unless of course you really like following them. Repeat the process. Its more natural and real-- and avoids a lot of the spammy things about Twitter. Oh. and avoid following people who have tons of followers with very few tweets, or lots of followers and much less following.

It can be a time-consuming chore to maintain a clean Twitter following, but the jury is still out if it will pay dividends. Lots of people swear by it, but I have never made a significant business connection through twitter, but maybe 200 real followers isn't enough. I don't much like Twitter, but I feel I have to participate in my line of work; like it or not.

On the other hand if you just want thousands of Twitter followers so you can spam them to death, then this method won't work. I posted a guest blog about this.. http://blog.corewebsolutions.com/whatever/real-twitter-followers/

It is definately about quality over quanity on twitter and this is where the confusion for many begins. I think twitter is a great tool but you have to work it. The platform needs regular attention from you and it also needs to have a level of personal touch. It takes some time to hand pick your followers but when you tweet to your niche it will be much more effective.

Exactly - you can't just spam and it with no effort and expect results. You can't join the Tweet farms to gain dodgy followers. It is about the effort you put in... but I bet with that 4 hours per day that people consistently put in to achieve these goals and achievements - if they put that four hours per day into their own site the results would be much much higher - people and visitors will tweet your posts for you... work on your own sites.

Twitter is like a snippet of any forum. Everyone and their mom is selling something somewhere and as well they should be if you want to make any money. But, like dating, to get the best chances then its probably a good idea to differentiate yourself. You also want to engage with those that have something meaningful to say.

You would probably not hire the first guy that walks into your shop and says he has the best widget 3,000 and that you should use them because they're the best. You would, however, most likely get to know, like and trust this same person who came in and wanted to find out more about you and your business...and then offered a helpful complimentary service to you that would help you get more business. If he took the time to get to know you and your business by listening then he would have a better shot at the sale.

Same thing with twitter, facebook, blog post, whatever.

I'll tackle the hash tags question.

Hash tags are pretty simple. You can use them to track re-twets, and more generally, you can use them to track discussion on any topic.

To create a hash tag, you simply put a word or words (with no spaces) after the "#" tag. Like so: #Thisisahastag.

Then, once you tweet your message, or anytime you want to check your hash tag, go to www.hashtags.org and search for it.

The site will come back wih a list of all Twitter users who tweeted a message containing your hash tag and how long ago it was. You can easily track retweets in this way.

Actually, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. Before you even create your hash tag, you should go to www.hashtags.org and search for the one you want to use. The reason for this is that hash tags are not exclusive. Anyone can use a given tag. So, you basically want to search for it and make sure that no one else is using the one you want to use.

    That's pretty much it.

Let me know if all I've done is confuse you more, lol.

The easiest method to come on visitors are by helping people getting together with them. Stay in constant interaction together with your fans dont stress about fake fans, just go for only individuals who RT you or send direct messages for you.

It's been robot saturated. Most responses are automated on twitter so you won't be getting much traffic unless you go really viral.

Some good tips there, it's especially important to ensure you are interacting and engaging with others in your industry - otherwise, you are doing the same as everyone else. Trying to sell something. Realistically you should be using your Twitter account to increase your reputation and not to directly try and sell something. For our Social Colleague Twitter account we must have at least 100 accounts that are blocked so their affiliate link tweets are pointless.

I am inclined to believe that it is robot-saturated. I have tweeted a lot of posts in my website but it seems that there's no traffic coming from Twitter. I might be doing wrong.

Try to create a conversation with others in Twitter. Keep the conversations focused on a specific topic (e.g. cooking, technology etc.) and you will find more people who are interested in the same topic. Try to create a community around your site/profile/topic.
