All is hard work, nothing is perfect but a variety of "stuff" might not be bad: it is only a problem of time. Relying on twitter ou other conversatinal sites is suicidary, so you need also SEO and SEO is the primary on te list.
From my experience, Twitter is all about marketers marketing to other marketers. Yes, it is used by celebrities but to me the everyday user would prefer to use Facebook to connect with friends as it is, in my opinion, considerably better.

Interesting that one person in this thread gives off so much negative energy. Too bad for them. I laugh when someone makes such a blanket statement as "It doesn't work." There are no absolutes in this world. There are people everywhere like myself that have experimented with Twitter and found ways to make it work for them. I love Twitter. It's one of the biggest litte secrets around (so to speak). Some are making millions with that site.
*chuckles and rolls eyes at another noob who doesn't know what he is talking about.* "Interesting" that some posters here praise this twitter, even though the idiots do not even have a page, and, on top of that, many have their signatures on selling crap about it. Well, stupid, actually.
Surely. Twitter is a good marketing tool. I heard someone in DP earns more than $50 per day from twitter and dell earns $1mill from twitter.
Surely you heard from a liar here at DP. And you are not DELL. They could put in a God-awful ad in a paper, and still make money. Because they are...DELL.
Twitter can be a great tool to market your site, but only if you put the work into getting your own followers. DO NOT PAY ANYONE FOR FOLLOWERS. This only leads to spam. Trust me. I'm there.
I personally don't dispute that some people are making money from it. Below the spammmy surface there's more than likely some hungry buyers ready to purchase your product, though I don't have the energy to find that out.
It's a great way to market your site. Follow other twitter users who are in your niche and they will follow you. This opens up all kinds of doors and new opportunities. All it takes is a couple of tweets a day, and not just your own links, but insight going on in your niche.
This is one of the explanations on why you noobs have dead sites, and why so many "struggle." I don't know why, but that puts a smile on my face. Mean? Probably, but I never did have patience for stupid people, especially when they spread bad info on boards.
Twitter is the next best thing aside from facebook; in term of using social network to market. As long you have the right tools and know what to write on your blog daily; people will stick to you if they find what you have on your page is useful and attractive.
It really depends on the niche of your site. If your site is general, then I'd rather not use Twitter. However, if it's in a more narrow niche, it's good for promotion as you can gain more followers that way.
It all depends on how many followers you have and how you use it, it can be very powerful especially if your content gets retweeted. It can go viral real quickly
