I started twittering a while back and have seen no discernible uptick in traffic and it is my understanding that it is a no follow site so what is all the fuss about? I have read a number of articles that say it is a good idea. I am having my doubts.
Twitter requires a lot of effort before it becomes your top referrer (after google). I have seen many people just switched from RSS to twitter. So people follow blog's update on twitter and visit the blog whenever a new link is posted.
To me twitter helps to interact more about the article. This is nor contributing big to my in traffic though it has lots of links related to the site. Does twitter links show in your total in links on webmaster tools ?
The other issue is that a large percentage of Twitter users (especially the power users) use desktop clients. Therefore links opened by them will come in as "direct", and not from Twitter. So honestly you could actually be getting double the clickthrus from Twitter than you're actually seeing. That being said, how many followers do you actually have, and do they actually care what you have to say? That could be another reason you're not seeing a decent uptick...
Yes, it is true, Twitter links are nofollow. As far as I know, there is no "fuss" about Twitter in terms of linkbuilding whatsoever.
I agree - Twitter is good for driving traffic from what I've seen. Oh yeah, and aren't all social networking sites just one more place to build your brand?
I agree too.I always twitter my blog updates and twitter push more people to my blog. And I think it is a good place to link building and friend building.Try twitter, but never twit only your advertisements.
Twitter is a great marketing tool, it has to be the easiest way to build traffic You just have to be a "real person" and talk about real life things not just pushing your links out every chance you get Maybe this video will help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddO9idmax0o
I think Twitter is not necessarily the best tools for link generation...it is a great tool to network and getting some recognition for your site. You can follow me @truvoip
Twitter is good for traffic, but you have to build a following. Search for people who may be interested in you and follow them. Hopefully, they will follow you in return.
Twitter or not, just don't stress about traffic or links and build quality content site/blog, and little by little you will see the juice coming sweet. If you care about twitter, facebook, yahoo answers, community directories discuss, quality comments,....etc you will never have time for your own site. I have seen a lot of blogs full of adsense and claiming why they cant see traffic with all the work doing, i go to there blogs and believe me or not THERE IS NOTHING! 1 post from April 2008 for ex. I don' t believe anyone of us can do a lot of money from blogs or sites, only if you have a lot of time, a lot of money and a lot of talent for, And i mean all this together, and a lot of other things but this 3 are the most important. and if we had all this I'm sure we will not be here. Do it for hobby, because it is. don't stress about traffic and you will see some result.i say some. Good luck
It is sometimes good for traffic but if you look at http://twitter.com/robots.txt you will see that they don't have tweets crawled by the search engines. So link building won't really work...
