In a strange turn of events, I lost access to my original Twitter account on June 1st 2017 because it started throwing up a phone verification security system I never consented to. One of a few things happened. Either that is an outdated phone number, I mistyped it, or someone hacked my account to brick it using that security feature. Twitter staff refuses to help and my very livelihood is threatened by this as a public figure on the Internet. What can I even do?
Lawyer up? Seriously, if your "very livelihood is threatened" then that's a very big deal and if Twitter aren't prepared to support a verified user (as a public figure would be) then it's time to flex some muscle.
Sadly, I'm not verified yet. This is probably why they don't care. True, I might not be a big presence, but my livelihood really does depend on having that Twitter handle.
I would talk to your local internet safety group or to your lawyer Do you know the person who has taken over the account?
I only have a few ideas of likely persons. Thanks for the advice. I wish I could afford a lawyer, but I'm poor because of this nonsense. Someone compromised my Twitch account for a long time and I ended up homeless before, even.
I'm finding this a bit hard to believe. You had a twitter account that controlled your entire ability to earn money? And you didn't take care when setting up the recovery information? You're a public figure but you weren't verified? You can't just make another and start over? Because of that you are homeless? You didn't save any of your earnings? Want to share the account you lost?
There is literally no one here that will be able to help you recover your account. Your only option is Twitter. It's their website, they control all aspects of it (including the ability to recover accounts). If they are unwilling (or unable to because you can't supply the necessary info to verify ownership) to assist you with your account recovery, you have no other options outside of raising enough capitol to buy controlling interest in Twitter (somewhere around $7B should give you controlling interest in the company, at which point you really can do whatever you want because it's your company).
Was it this account: https://twitter.com/fyrifloo?lang=en You were earning a living from it? Don't gamers use discourse?
