Well, all outgoing links on Twitter are nofollow. Although Ask.com doesn't follow Google's "nofollow" rules, so in that search engine.. Twitter outgoing links count for link juice.

When Twitter users visit your site because of a tweet they read, your site gets credit in the search engines for usage. Usage is a sign of quality in the search engines and Alexa as well.

And one more fact that relates: individual tweets can be indexed in Google if you optimize them right.

It is true that Twitter linsk are nofollow, but as I described in this article on SEO and Socail Media, you can still get a lot of great quality backlinks from Twitter and the scrapper sites that pull info from Twitter and republish it.

Would URL shortening impact Twitter's SEO value? Such as bit.ly links.

No - if bit.ly links are placed somewhere that isn't nofollow, they have a permanent rediect so will be followed. BUT - all Twitter links are nofollow.

Twitter does help in SEO in 2 roundabout ways - one is that it's another way for your company name to get a listing - your Twitter profile page will show in serps.
Also Google are including tweets in serps - I'm not sure how useful this is for either searchers or webmasters, but it's there.

Edit - I've just read this again, and I can't let it pass
"When Twitter users visit your site because of a tweet they read, your site gets credit in the search engines for usage. Usage is a sign of quality in the search engines" - this is complete fantasy - it's just completely wrong.

Twitter don't help in SEO because it is a kind of viral marketing, no direct impact on SEO.

Links from Twitter carries nofollow value and don't give direct value towards SERP ranking in Google. But, other search engine might give value to it.

However, reaching TOP in SEO does not belong to one method. Twitter can be part of it, but it maybe 1 in 200+ aspects that give you the real top ranking in SEO.

If you really want to rank top in SERP, I suggest you to concentrate the other 199+ aspects too.

I do not think that twitter is helpful for SEO, its only promotional tool, You can only get one link from twitter by placing link on your twitter profile.

Yes, traffic in twitter will not last long. It's better if you can get traffic from search engines.

I was curios as to the befits that twitter offers for SEO, but I did not want to spend a lot of time trying it out for myself, because I do know how to get good results at Google without using it.

I ask the following question to other webmasters and SEO experts: Do you use Twitter for SEO?

I still think twitter may be a waste of time when trying to use it for SEO.

I do not feel that it is necessary to spend time trying to using Twitter for SEO, when it is easier to focus on factors of SEO that I know work.
