It's the good old .... chat box /slash/ shout box .... they were pretty big in 2001 - 2003 .... I guess it's the cycle of every 5 years the popular can be re-introduced .... with an added 2.0 feel. How often do you see a twitter in search results though ? I have never seen a single result (for a search term other than twitter).
Twitter is good for people who promote internet marketing INCEST. (ie, Senior members gurus) of the "make money" family screwing the members of the same family (newbies) and tech them how to screw the budding members of the same "make money online" family. For others if can be useful if you are running a site which regularly updates with content for geeks. -Neo
Man, if you miss Twitter, you miss a great deal, Really!!!!. This Twitter is A secret Weapon For Buzz Marketing. thank me latter, coz i reveal you this hidden secret.
i saw some blogger use plug in that will automatically shout your new post to the follower. It is just like feedburner. But some time it is annoying. Just imagine what will happen if there is a blogger make 2 posts a day, and it will be more annoying if you followed 10 bloggers like that Anyway, twitter = tool for spam ethically
Here is one example where a company used it to its advantage. Dell sold $1M thru Twitter. twitter . com / DellOutlet
<sarcasm>Who's Dell ? well my web site and hobby business is heaps bigger than Dell - so I can make $10 000 000</sarcasm> Seriously that's like saying "Youtube make $100 000 a day, so can a Youtube clone"
I work in the social media industry with some larger clients and even though we do use twitter it is not something that is updated all of the time. We usually only "tweet" when there is large news we want to get out to everyone pretty quickly. I really don't see a real large future for Twitter unless they change some things and try to expand on what they have, in my opinion it is kind of a one dimensional trend.
Twitter is useful like it has already been said to promote articles or website, affiliate links..ect and using wordpress 2.7 you can have updates automatically sent to facebook and twitter ,making it that much more fun to write your blog and not worry about such promotional aspects.
twitter is used by a lot of bored people. they dont know what to do, so they send message what are they doing
It is also used by people like me, who have a decent amount of followers and get traffic to their website from twitter. Twitter can be great for targeted traffic. I love Twitter!
So the replies seem to be split between: A. Twitter is an amazing new marketing and promotional tool. B. Twitter is useless garbage. C. What the hell is Twitter? I think how well Twitter "works" for anyone is directly tied to how they use it. As a direct sales tool (ie: blast your links out to people and make sales), it probably sucks unless you already have a lot of followers and credibility. The people I see using it effectively are using it more to benefit from connecting with potential customers and building on their brand/reputation and influencing people that way. If you don't like interacting with people, then Twitter probably isn't for you. In that case, just pursue a more non-social approach, as long as it gets you results.
Twitter is almost as good as having large opt-in lists, if you know how to take full advantage of it. One of the cool things about it's popularity is the plug-ins and widgets popping up on Facebook and other social networking sites. Make a post on Twitter and it carries across the networks. I think Twitter is great and one of my many marketing tools. Regards, Tony Thomas
If you have a blog & a Twitter account, you can sign up at www.TwitterFeed.com and every time you update your blog with a new post, it will automatically send out a "Tweet" with a link to your new blog post. You don't even have to think about it.. I use it and it does help get traffic to your blog. Get as many followers as you can, and it works even better.
It more for individuals rather than sites. For example, many youtube stars use it to tell their fans when their next show is or what their doing at the time,
