when setting up your blog, online magazine, one of the decisions you will make is which social marketing networks get the most priority, for example you may have noticed many websites feature a Retweet or Digg It buttons in the top-right or top-left of their posts, so my question is which one is a better choice for a new blog a ReTweet button or Digg IT button? what do you think?
Nowadays more people own a twitter account then a digg account. keep that in your mind. also, try to find if your audience use twitter or digg (make poll if possible). However, i think you have more benefits from digg only if you have a huge website.
Why not just use the sharethis/addthis button that adds both twitter and digg functionality to your posts? If you had to choose between both I would say use "retweet it" button.
People actually use that? I often installed it as a habit but I never actually use it, and if I'm catering to users of a specific site like digg or twitter I put up the respective logo. To the OP--if you have to do one, use digg. A dugg story is a do-follow link that basically doubles your exposure in natural search, even if it's not picked up by a power digger. The other commenters here do make good points that twitter has more users--I have yet to see that translate into more viewers though. Also there is a wordpress plugin that puts a message to vote for this post on whatever site--and the message is different based on where the visitor came from. In other words someone who came over from digg will see "Hi fellow digger, please digg this up" whereas someone who clicked from twitter will see the respective message for them. I use the plugin all the time but I cant remember the name of it off the top of my head.
Thanks for mentioning this plugin, it will make things easier for testing purposes, and make use of the best of both worlds (twitter and digg)
I would say Twitter. The simple reason that I feel is Digg is more of geeky tool, Twitter on the other hand is more suited for the common web user, so Twitter is what I go with. Doesn't really matter maccam. Like real friends, only quality followers matter, not quantity. Check out the links in my signature if you want to make the most of your twitter account.
If you've lots of followers then tweeter is great but if you ain't have that much then digg it is better.
I would think it would depend on your target market. Think of what type of people you want target and try to decide if they would prefer tweeting or digging. QUality not quantity ....
Digg sends some pretty mad traffic with content, but for the most part it just eats up bandwidth....quality stinks
Twitter is as popular as Digg. With a 974% jump in users over the last 12 months, Twitter is hitting the mainstream in a big way. Digg gets 327 million page views a month and about 30 million uniques. That’s a lot of pairs of eyes rolling over your brand name in a short space of time. What Digg allows us to do is measure the initial uptake of an article in readership. We can measure. That is the key here. I suggest you to use both. -Kim
I think its really much important your content and whom you target , for the general audions tweet is best because now twitter is hot trends with alexa rank 13 . and seo point of view still digg is best , Google give such a important to digg still .
makes no difference, the number of followers you have does not represent the number of links or actual visitors you get. Twitter is a great marketing place but it is really difficult to establish a solid base for it. A lot of hard work is required which includes not tweeting bout your business only!
