Anybody have experience marketing on television. I see some websites do marketing this way. Does it really pay off as per branding, as well as selling products.

sean, not true. TV is still a huge advertising medium and will be much more effective than internet advertising for some time to come. For advertisers wanting to see quick results, there is nothing better than TV. As an example, last week's South Park attracted 4 million viewers -- that's 4 million potential "impressions" viewing YOUR ad. The conversion rate doesn't have to be anything spectacular, but even a small rate would bring in huge amounts of money.

I suppose it depends on your location and what kind of services you're offering. A few years ago we spent a decent amount (I think it was around AUD$10,000) to have our ad appear during a morning TV show. Obviously with us being in Australia there weren't many people watching the show, but it was on a major network (ten). We were offering family portraits at a discounted fee (sitting fee was waived and an additional 50% discount for those that rang in the next 30 minutes). Since each package ended up being around $500 we made a decent return in a relatively short period of time.

Think about it... out of the hundreds of thousands of people that were watching the show at the time, we only needed to book 20 to break even. I can't remember the exact figure for viewers, but assuming that 200,000 people viewed the ad, that's only a 0.01% conversion rate.
